R6300 Does not recognize USB HDD attached

R6300 Router with upgraded firmware to R6300-V1.0.2.80_1.0.59. WD 16TB HDD attached to the router USB port. Same drive and USB connector works perfectly when attached to a computer but is not recognized by the router.
Have checked advanced USB settings and toggle is set to recognize any HDD attached through the USB.
After the firmware upgrade and the toggle set above, is there anything else I can try or is this HDD just too big to ever be recognized?
Thanks in advance

I don't know of any NG routers that support such large disks.
Indeed, 8 TB is the biggest I have seen reported here that works.
Netgear's database if compatible devices is out of date and incomplete.
ReadySHARE USB Drives Compatibility List | Answer | NETGEAR Support
It mentions 8TB for one router, but that's it.

Re: R6300 Does not recognize USB HDD attached
Is there a Netgear router up to date to accept such a large (16TB) HDD attached to the Router?

I have not seen reports that ReadySHARE can handle 16TB drives. Indeed, that size seems to cause problems
I have an 8 TB Seagate with two further USB ports that happily work on ReadySHARE.
The usual advice with ReadySHARE is that it does not like partitions, but I seem to recall one user who did that with a huge drive and it worked.
Remember, if you use ReadySHARE you may have to tweak Windows:

Thank for the replies all. Shame it can't support a large HDD.

Re: R6300 Does not recognize USB HDD attached
True. But a lot has changed since ReadySHARE arrived. Small, Mb thumbdrives gave way to Gb pocket sized numbers and then to the large TB boxes that are supposed to replace multi-drive NAS Ethernet enclosures.
ReadySHARE wasn't designed for that and hasn't seen much in the way of development since then.
It is a pity that NAS costs haven't come down as quickly as other devices.
I have 8TB + 4TB connected, with space to fill two other USB slots with whatever I like. You can do 16 TB but not with a single device.
