WN2500RPv2 Factory reset now wont see http://mywifiext

So I moved and wanted to reset this up after having used it a few years at my old place. I did the push button factory reset on it and now (as per the setup guide) have connected both wirelessly and wired but neither seem to access when I put in http://mywifiext

I have tried chrome, firefox and edge. I have dissabled all of my firewalls when I try to do this.

I have good LED on power and on the etherenet port I am connected to.

I have tried disabling firest the ethernet and then the wifi addapters to issolate one over the other and neither is connecting.

I am stupped. Should I be throwing this in the trash?

Thanks

Try this.

Factory reset it 1 more time.

Push and hold reset for 7-15 seconds while its powered on.

Then during setup, hardwire a pc/laptop into it. Disable the wifi on the pc/laptop to ensure it doesn't default back to the wifi.

Then try the mywifiext  .  net   (take the spaces out)  or try 192.168.1.250   (default ip address)

Did you actually put in "http://mywifiext", or did you put in what's
in the documentation?  (For no apparent reason, "mywifiXext.net" without
the "X" is forbidden in these forums.)

A clear description of what _does_ happen would be more useful than a
vague description of what does _not_ happen.

Visit http://netgear.com/support , put in your model number, and look
for Documentation.  Get the User Manual (at least).  Read.  Look for the
LED descriptions and "Troubleshoot"?

Re: WN2500RPv2 Factory reset now wont see http://mywifiext

I was not able to get connected to my EX2700 extender using the IP address I know was right as I double check it always from the tablet which is connected to the extender.  My router does dynamic addressing and I set the range.

I finely got connected to the extender by using that URL this site doesn't want to be displayed.  The one that starts with (mywifi) I didn't change anything, but it connected and worked as it should and use to when only using the IP address of extender which is easy to find.  I know I could assign extender an IP, but it is easy to find.  I did notice when using that mywifi...... URL browser puts the HTTP:// in front.  If I change the HTTP to HTTPS:// with the mywifi..............  I get the same error as when I use only an IP address, which is unable to reach device.  Error a little different in all 3 browsers I tried, but means the same.

"not able" is not a useful problem description.  It does not say
what you did.  It does not say what happened when you did it.  As usual,
showing actual actions (commands) with their actual results (error
messages, LED indicators, ...) can be more helpful than vague
descriptions or interpretations.

It's nice that you're happy, but I can't see your "the IP address I
know was right", and I have no idea how you "double check it". I do
know that specifying a wrong IP address is a good way to get a failure.

People come to these forums every day, claiming to "know" something
which isn't true.  Such experience leads to skepticism about any claim
which includes "I know", but no actual evidence.

These devices are too simple to use HTTPS ("https://<whatever>").
With some browsers, you might need to specify "http://" explicitly.

And what happens if you specify some known-wrong IP address?

Re: WN2500RPv2 Factory reset now wont see http://mywifiext

Now I have to admit my not looking into this enough and the errors I made.  I said I knew the IP address (or thought I knew), what I was doing is looking at my Android connection to the EX2700 and clicking on gear and it shows the IP address.  Well after pulling my head out and thinking, I said, crap that is the IP address of my Addroid device!!!  So I went into router configuration found that to be true.  Then looked at connected devices while in router config and EX2700 was really 192.168.1.68.

Now when I first started all this I was using FF and I did try IP ending in 67 68 69 70, but they were erroring because FF is adding HTTPS in front.  I have router doing dynamic assigning IP.  Perhaps I should use the EX2700 Entender option to assign the IP?

So the reason FF won't work it is sticking HTTPS in front.  I thought there might be a setting to always try secured connection in FF, but haven't found it yet.

Chrome is working fine with IP address only, Chrome is not putting anything in front of the IP address, does add/login.html on end after connected so would guess EX2700 doing that as it paints logon screen.

DuckDuckGo does not work and it gets an easy error:  It adds HTTP:// in front like this HTTP://192.168.1.68.  Then gives this error           { "reset" : "1" }  in tiny hard to read text.

So after all this Chrome does work when I get the right IP address.   Using that URL MYWIF......... name that this site doesn't want seen, but is in my manual from Netgear works on all three browsers.

Can anyone explain why that URL isn't wanted to be seen on this site?

You would think after 36 years of being IT support I wouldn't make these stupid mistakes, but most all my work was on mainframes and I retired in Jan 2004.  So I can chalk that up to being an IT dinosaurs and old age.  Also been working outside in 103 degrees temp, that is feel like temp really only 95.

You can use Address Reservation on the router (DHCP server) to ensure
that the extender always gets the same address.  (Choose something
memorable.)

If you don't specify a scheme explicitly, then it might default to
"https://".  If that fails, then it might try "http://", but it'd be
safer to specify "http://" explicitly.  Bookmark?

The management web server can rewrite what it's given, replacing the
minimal URL which you specified with something more detailed.  That's
pretty common behavior for any web site.  You'd need to watch the actual
traffic in detail, which I haven't done, so I know nothing, but I'd
expect to see some kind of redirect like:

      https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HTTP_301

Should be harmless, though.

> Can anyone explain why that URL isn't wanted to be seen on this site?

"this site" is run by incompetent/indifferent people?

      https://community.netgear.com/t5/x/x/m-p/2117631

If the problem doesn't affect a privileged user, and the privileged
users can't be bothered to invest a few minutes in reproducing the
problem after multiple complaints, then there are limits to what a peon
like me can do about it.

> You would think [...]

Nah.  Trust no one, I always say.  The skilled and unskilled can both
get sloppy.
