Connection Issues with Wifi USB Adapter Model A7000

Hi, I have two "WiFi USB 3.0 AC1900 (A7000)" which I have been using for a long time on two different PCs with Win11. Before "Win11" latest update, my Wi-Fi speed was about 650mbs in download, and 310mbs in upload. Besides, "Netger Genie" was working correctly detecting automatically my Wi-Fi.

After Win11 update of 11/22/2024, the two WiFi Adapters USB 3.0 AC1900 (A7000) stopped working properly, and Netger Genie started showing a red flag in the notification area (i.e. it couldn't manage any more the adapter, on both computers). I have tried everything possible, even reinstalling the OS and Netgear Genie, but up to now with my adapters I only reach a maximum of 330mbs in download.

Is there something more specific I can try? Is there any chance to download a Win11 driver specific for WiFi USB 3.0 AC1900 (A7000)?

Many thanks in advance for your help.

Which Netgear genie is this? The one associated with the adapter or the desktop one for Windows/Macs?

There is no need to use the adapter genie. Indeed, it might be a good idea to dump it. Windows does a perfectly adequate job of handling WiFi networks and it getting better at that with recent updates.

Then see if the adapter still works.

Re: Connection Issues with Wifi USB Adapter Model A7000

It is the latest version of NetGear Genie (1.0.0.15).

I have already tried to "dump it" but the results didn't change, even when I installed the standalone version.

Without NetgearGenie, there is no way to have the Adapter recognized and managed by Win11.

Moreover, it seems that there is no possibility to directly download a driver (just a driver...) for the Adapter, and Win11 does not have a generic driver for it.

Please, consider that I have been using Windows since 1995. Hence, I am an expert user. And until saturady, evertything was working properly.

Do you have a concrete solution to this problem? I mean, really concrete concrete?

P.S.: The NetGear Genie Pack was downloaded directly from NetGear official site.

Did you try this?

Search - NETGEAR Communities – A7000

Rather a lot of good ideas there from people who fixed problems with Windows 10 and the A7000.

Re: Connection Issues with Wifi USB Adapter Model A7000

It's WIN11, the problems I am experiencing are with WIN11, not with WIN10.

I have an WIN10 Pro MSI Stealth, and on it the Netgear Adapter fully works. Even if I use Netgear Genie (hence, no need to "dump it").

Please, let us not waste time reciprocally. I only need a solution allowing me to use my Netgear adapteres (Model A7000) running under WIN11 Pro in its latest updates. i.e. KB5046740 and KB5048162. If you know how to solve my problem, please explain. Otherwise, stop writing, because you are not helping me.

My, such a gracious response.

How about trying some of those ideas? In my experience the "under the bonnet" differences between 10 and 11 are not enormous.

I have even older USB wifi adapters that work fine in 11. I have, though, replaced them with newer WiFi cards.

But if you come here with a closed mind don't expect much help.

Re: Connection Issues with Wifi USB Adapter Model A7000

Thanks for your advice. I read the pages you kindly wrote me about, and I noticed that actually there is a post dated 11/24/2024 in which someone highlights the same problem I am experiencing... and then I realized it was my post, i.e. the one we are in, now.

Please, let me summarize:

1 - The adapter worked perfectly before the latest Win11 update (11/23/2024). All the posts in the pages you kindly adviced me to read are precedent to this date and describe different problems;

2 - I have tried the adapter on Win10, and it goes up to 600Mbps, while the same adapter (phisically the same) does not reach 300Mbps on Win11;

3 - I have checked the drivers installed in both Win10 and Win11: they are identical - same date, same size, same directories under Windows/System32 and /drivers;

4 - Both the Pcs (Win10 and Win11) have 64 bit OSs;

5 - I have tried all the possible solutions proposed by Microsoft Troubleshooting and Tutorials, except for update downgrading and/or Windows 11 reinstalling (which, I hope you agree, are a bit dangerous and not ideal solutions):

6 - This Win11 Pc is an AMD Ryzen 9 5900HX.

All considered, I think the problem lays somewhere in the latest Win11 update, and that the real possible solution would be a new A7000 Win11 driver, which actually does not exist. And unless you cannot kindly offer me a different concrete solution, the problem stays unsolved, and I will probably have to reinstall Windows trying not to lose my data.

Re: Connection Issues with Wifi USB Adapter Model A7000

P.S.: I have also posted the same questions on a Microsoft Community Official Site (Italian). Normally, there is always someone who answers, but not in this case. I received no answer, which probably means they do not now how to cope with the problem.

Hence, my final question: is there a possibility that a new Win 11 driver for A7000 will be issued? Consider that the one I am still using (and which does not work properly) dates back to 2018.

Thanks.

Only Netgear can answer that.

You should know that this community is essentially a user-to-user venue to talk about technical issues, with some input from a small band of Netgear techies.

If you want "official" support then you should go through the right channels.

Re: Connection Issues with Wifi USB Adapter Model A7000

Actually, Netgear won't answer. I visited their site, looked for the page of my product, and discovered that no on-line support is any longer previewed for this Adapter, and this since 2022. Therefore, there is no chance to contact someone at Netgear about this Adapter, or to ask for a new driver release.

Thank you for your help.

You should still be able to get help from Netgear if you are prepared to pay for it. Free support stops after 90 days. But that would probably cost more than a new adapter.

Sadly, the answers you pay for would probably be the same as you would get here. This is an "old" (2017) adapter. Netgear no longer stocks it.

The newer A8000 does WiFi 6e (6GHz) and says it supports Windows 11. But if you have room in your PC, a PCIe card is a good option. Mine does WiFi 6e Bluetooth.

Re: Connection Issues with Wifi USB Adapter Model A7000

I called an Italian phone number, and a kind lady (answering from Poland) explained me that:

1 - The Adapter has long gone out of production;

2 - I had installed the latest driver/firmware, so nothing better than that could be done;

3 - No new driver/firmware was supposed to be produced/developed.

Actually she was helpful, even if she could not solve my problem.
