Netgear Genie keeps closing - A7000

I'm trying to use the A7000 on a desktop running Windows 10 with no built-in WiFi support.  I got to the point where the adapter is recognized in Device Manager and the Netgear Genie opened and began scanning.  Then it closed.  Then it reopened and began scanning.  Then it closed.  It just does this over and over, I can't even try to mess with the options because it closes so quickly, and the diagnostics support only gets to around 44%.  I saw a video from another post that allows you to install the drivers without the Genie, so I tried that and now nothing happens.  Does anyone know what might be going on here?

    Turns out WLAN AutoConfig was disabled!  After enabling it, everything is working perfectly.

  • I did some additional digging, here's the error:

    System.Net.Sockets.SocketException (0x80004005): No such host is known

       at System.Net.Dns.GetAddrInfo(String name)

       at System.Net.Dns.InternalGetHostByName(String hostName, Boolean includeIPv6)

       at System.Net.Dns.GetHostEntry(String hostNameOrAddress)

       at ScreenConnect.NetworkExtensions.GetIPAdresses(String hostOrIPAddressString)

       at ScreenConnect.ClientNetworkExtensions.ConnectTcpSocket(Uri endPointUri)

       at ScreenConnect.WindowsClientToolkit.ConnectNetworkConnection(Uri endPointUri, Uri httpProxyUri)

       at ScreenConnect.SocketEndPointManager.Run()

     Is something not set up properly on the computer? In addition to this, Windows Network Diagnostics says it couldn't automatically bind the IP protocol stack to the network adapter, which might mean there's a problem with the driver?  What am I missing?

    • Tried without installing the genie?

      Netgear's wifi adapters offer a "standalone" driver only option.

      Sometimes Microsoft native drivers will work without anything from Netgear.

        That also didn't work.  Nothing happens once it's installed, and it's the same set of errors.
