OS 6.6.1 and OS 6.7.1 - Can't create new directory via FTP on external USB device

Hi

I've searched the forums but not managed to find anything similar, so here's my problem:

A friend who has a USB HDD (formatted NTFS) connected to one of my ReadyNAS units for off-site backup via FTP has found that he can no longer create a new directory on his HDD via FTP, which I suspect coincides with me upgrading my RN316 to OS 6.6.1 on 9 March 2017. The workaround we've been using has been for me to create a dirctory for him via the web GUI.

Having tested this behaviour and done some further tests via plain FTP, I can confirm that it is indeed not possible to create a new directory on the the USB HDD, but it's possible to do so on the main volume on the NAS.

Tested using a USB Flashdrive (formatted NTFS) this behaviour is present both on the original RN316 and a RN312, both with OS 6.6.1 installed. Updating the RN312 to OS 6.7.1 did not solve the problem.

However, changing the format of the USB Flashdrive to either EXT4 or BTRFS does allow new directories to be created via FTP. Therefore, as my friends USB HDD has always been formatted NTFS and he was able to create new directories using FTP prior to OS 6.6.1 being installed, it appears that something was broken in OS 6.6.1 and has been 'inherited' by OS 6.7.1

Although one solution would be to re-format the USB HDD to EXT4 and copy the data back to it, at this stage for various reasons it is preferred to keep the formatting as NTFS.

Am I missing something obvious?

Can anybody else reproduce the behaviour described above (unlikely it's confined to just me as it's happening on at least two of my ReadyNAS units)?

Would someone from NetGear care to comment, and if/when you're convinced this problem exists, when can a fix be expected?

Hmm, guess that rules out the "obvious" bits you originally asked about.  ;-)

Are there no clues in the permission settings in Network Access --> FTP --> Security and File Access --> Security for the shares of the different types of filesystems?  I understand that it used to work for you; just wondering if the new behavior isn't maybe reflected in changes in default settings for shares using the corresponding filesystems.

        Thanks for your reply.

I've just double-checked and nothing has changed in the permission settings so that's not the cause.

I mentioned in my OP the workaround that we'd been using whereby I would create a new directory for my friend locally via the web GUI, and although I ddn't actually state it, my friend is then able to copy/create new files into that (or any other existing) directory.

Something new to add to the description of the behaviour which I've only just tried is that it is possible to rename an existing directory via FTP.

Edit:  I just noticed it's also possible to delete a directory via FTP.
