RN2120 "Problem connecting to server" message at each Mac start

Dear all,

I get everytime I start my Mac the following pop-up:

There was a problem connecting to the server “********”.

The server may not exist or it is unavailable at this time. Check the server name or IP address, check your network connection, and then try again.

I m connected through AFP and SMB, and at times I am connected and at times I have to go to Finder to connect. Has anybody the same issue? I have 6.4.1 on my RN2120.

Jaime

Which other services are you running?

Are you running any apps?

Not at the moment the message appears. Some background OS X services maybe, but nothing special.

He's asking about services/apps on the NAS, not the PC.

Re: RN2120 "Problem connecting to server" message at each Mac start

Ooops..

No apps on the RN, only the Antivirus plus, and at the beginning I did not have it and it was the same.

I think anyway it is an issue with the Finder server options: I cannot remove the NAS from the servers that connect (or try to connect) at start, it is three times there (SMB+AFP+other) and one may not be properly configured.

The procedure to remove is quite complicated it seems. Anybody familiar with MAC OS X there?

I'm not, but others are.

If you have the AntiVirus service running on the NAS, disable it on system->settings->services.  Note this is the AV service itself, not the AV plus app.  It has a serious performance issue in 6.4.1 and 6.4.2 beta.  It might not be related to your immediate problem, but still Netgear is recommending that it be disabled for now.

I am on a Mac right now, I use them all the time.

The three entries would be for SMB, AFP and for Time Machine (or if Time Machine is disabled advertising SMB to Windows machines).

Can you send me your logs (see the Sending Logs link in my sig)?

I would try disabling the AV service and updating to ReadyNAS OS 6.4.2 and see if that helps.

mdgm,

Did you propose that after receviving my logs or before?

I have disabled the basic AV and it does not change anything.

With regards to the 6.4.2 update, it is still not proposed to me in the Admin page: It says I am up to date with 6.4.1 and will not update. I suppose I need a manual update...

I saw a netgear post saying that they were planning to add 6.4.2 to the update services on 8 February.

I have updated the firmware since day one: No changes.

Any other idea?

Hi jangoloti,

Can you confirm if you have manually uploaded or installed the latest official Firmware 6.4.2? If it fails, try several web browser/s.

Looking forward to your response.

Kind regards,

Re: RN2120 "Problem connecting to server" message at each Mac start

I think I installed it when it was available as automatic upgrade. It has not improved anything.

For the Web browsers, it does not depend on any, it is at OS startup.
