ReadyNas Duo V2 replaced HDD
Hi all,
I have just replaced 1 failed disk in my ReadyNAS Duo V2. The Duo was set up in a mirrored array so I powered down the DUO and removed the faulty drive. After putting the new drive in I new get teh following error in RAIDar: Bad Disks Detected
The lights on the front of the Duo are flashing as follows:
Power light: Constant steady flash
Act, Both HDD and Backup lights: 3 slow flashes and then 3 rapid flashes.
Please can anyone tell me if the array is at fault or if the other old disk has now died?
Thanks

Re: ReadyNas Duo V2 replaced HDD
Are you sure its a duo v2? Running 5.3.x firmware??? Or is it a v1?

There's a blinking light decoder ring for the v1 here: http://home.bott.ca/webserver/?p=324
I think your issue is that you plugged the new drive with the NAS powered down. Try shutting it down, and then removing the new drive. Then start it up without it.
It should boot, and you should be then able to access the volume, etc.
If it does, then hot-insert the new drive (keeping the NAS running). At that point it should format it.

Re: ReadyNas Duo V2 replaced HDD
Hi StephenB,
It's definitely a Duo V2. I have tried as you suggested, however after booting with just the original drive in I get the same error and the same sequence of lights. Good job I took a backup before I removed the old drive etc. Is there a way to get the Duo to format both drives when they are inserted?

Re: ReadyNas Duo V2 replaced HDD
There is a factory reset procedure you can do from the front panel. It's described on page 17 here: http://www.readynas.com/download/docume ... ept-11.pdf
If you have a USB adapter, you can also delete the existing drive partitions in a windows system (right click on computer, select "manage". Then scroll down to the disks, and right-click on the volumes and delete them). That unformats the drive. If unformatted drives are inserted into the duo, it will install the OS from scratch (same result as the factory reset).

Re: ReadyNas Duo V2 replaced HDD
Thanks for the info. As it's 11:00 P.M here this might be a job for when I am more awake. Will give it a shot tomorrow. If I can gain access to the drives I will be able to check the SMART errors on the original drive.
Thanks for the help
