PC not getting the same speeds as the laptop after replacement of R7000P with Orbi RBR350

My son's PC has a Centrino Wireless-N 2230 NIC and gets only 30 to 40Gb downloads on a 100Gb plan.
My laptops get 100+ Gb download.
To resolve this issue I checked the speeds supposedly available on the NIC and replaced the Netgear R7000P with an Orbi Mesh setup. It seems not to have solved the issue. Even when all computers are in the same room.
Have I wasted my money on the Orbi? Or am I missing something?

You missed the fact that the centrino 2230 is a single band device.
and 2.4ghz is a slow network. 30-40mbps is pretty good over it.
If you're wanting faster speeds, upgrade the wireless card.
