I've been reading reviews now and it appears now that the following is a known issue that they just refuse to fix. I've been an IT System Administrator for over 20 years and I would not buy another Netgear product again after dealing with their support which doesn't admit there is a known problem. I had the Netgear WNDR3400 and never had any trouble with it. I bought the Nighthawk R7000 and for $200 and my experience with other Netgear hardware I thought this unit would be great. I have had nothing but trouble with it. The Nighthawk r7000 is constantly going down. I upgrade firmware and it craps out and I have to redo the configuration. I get up in the morning and no wireless, I have to reboot it. Sometimes it goes down 2-3 times a day. The other day I got up and again no wireless, I rebooted and that didn't fix it. I go into the configuration and it says the wireless is turned off. First time I had this issue and you have to hold the wireless button on the front for about 10 seconds to turn it back on. This is ridicules that this unit has so many issues. Of course it's now out of the 90 warranty and Netgear says as long as the correct lights are on it not a hardware issue so pay us to troubleshoot or fix it yourself. When the device is a lemon, you can't fix that! NOW THAT I’M WRITING THESE REVIEWS, I FIND THAT USERS HAVE THE SAME ISSUES I’M HAVING. THEY HAVE ALSO CONTACTED NETGEAR TO NO AVAIL. BOTTOM LINE, BUY ANOTHER PRODUCT.Solved45KViews2likes28CommentsWhen AV500 plugs into AC1900, wireless connections on PC loses internet access
I just bought a AC1900 with DST adapter to replace my ASUS router. First question, the DST adapter only gives me about 60Megs when my PC is connected to the gig port (PC has gigE interface), no where close to 1Gig bandwidth. What throughput should I expect over the ethernet connection of the DST adapater ? I then tried using the Netgear AV500 powerline adapter with my AC1900 router. plugged the AV500 into one of the GigE ports on the AC1900 router; once plugged in, my PC that is connected via wireless loses its "Internet connection, even though it is still wirless connected to the network. When I unplug the AV500 from the AC1900, the internet connection is restored. Any idea what could be the issue ? Note: I had the powerline AV500 connected to the old ASUS router and it works without issues. Calling Netgear support directly; they routed me to Bestbuy Geek Squad; but the Geek Squad was no help. Thank-you.Solved3.1KViews0likes2CommentsRouter Keeps Rebooting
Router R7000 keeps rebooting by itself. Called netgear, replaced product twice but eventually ends up in same situation. Sometimes works for days and then all of sudden Router keeps rebooting by itself every couple of minutes or hours. Can't believe $200 router would behave this way. Had switched to $30 router and works like charm... Netgear doesn't seem to have clue, makes me repeat same troubleshooting steps from script which I have by heart now. Anyone faced with similar issue ....any resolution?Solved257KViews0likes27CommentsNighthawk AC1900 R7000 Questions
I have to upgrade my home wifi ap/router due to lack of firm ware updates and I am interested in puchasing this one. However I have few questions. 1. Does this device support dd-wrt firmware? 2. What is the typical cycle time that Netware will support this device with firmware? thanksSolved6.2KViews0likes12CommentsR7000 slow download speeds
only realized after 8 months that my R7000 router always has a download speed close to 3-5 mbps when my ISP provided me 75mbps upload/download. I got latest firm ware updated and customer service suggested me to use channel '11' from 'Auto'. Tried that but for first few minutes it is good but in no time it again going down to 3-5 mbps download speed, I noticed my upload speed is relatively higher. Does any one experienced the same issue? Noticed one forum about this issue but no solution as I see it.Solved72KViews0likes14CommentsSOLVED: Slow wireless internet passthrough speed after firmware update
So I first purchased a Nighthawk in July 2014 and it was awesome for a while. Then in notice is past couple months my streaming services were skipping and buffering more that usual (which was almost never with the Nighthawk). I have a 110Mbps connection (from Comcast and through an SB6141 modem) but all of a sudden was only getting 10 Mbps (or less) passthrough on wireless 5G band (at start of test speed would sometimes be as high as 50 Mbps, but over a few seconds would drop to nothing..) Wired speeds were fine. Always 110Mbps+. Tried several different channels and factory resets of the router, wireless speed was still slow. Logged onto Netgear website and submitted a support ticket.... within 2 hours they emailed me back with an RMA and the next day a new unit was being FedEx'd to me. Tech support rep said it's a known hardware issue in some units... I was super impressed with the customer service, it seriously was a no hassle replacement that took all of 15 minutes of my time. EXCEPT when I received the replacement router in a few days it had the SAME PROBLEM. As soon as the new router was on and I logged in, I upgraded to the latest version of firmware, did a factory reset, and ran Speedtest. And I had the same problem: internet passthrough speed on all my wireless devices was awful. Less than 10Mbps when I have a 110+Mbps connection. (Wired speeds were fine, so was not a provider or modem issue). Contacted support again and they instructed me to download latest firmware on laptop and manually upgrade router, doing a factory reset both before and after the upgrade. They also told me to try turning off WMM (made no difference in passthrough speed, but did lower my laptops link speed from 433Mbps to 54Mbps!). I tried all of that... still slow wireless passthough speed. The only thing that changed since I first got a Nighthawk back in July 2014 (and I ran speedtests then and had a 110+Mbps wireless speed at that time), is that the firmware has upgraded several times... which got me thinking... I downloaded from Netgear support the last 5 versions of firmware for the Nighthawk. http://downloadcenter.netgear.com/en/product/R7000#sear... I then manually downgraded the Nighthawk to each previous version (doing a factory reset both before and after each installation) and ran Speedtest each time. Once I got down to Version R7000-V1.0.3.24_1.1.20 (Released 2/12/14) and ran Speedtest, the PROBLEM WAS SOLVED. Wireless speeds on all devices (laptop, HTC One M7, and iPad Air 2) were all back up to 110Mbps or more!!! Hope this experiment helps out someone else... if your're experiencing slow internet passthrough speeds and it's not your link speed (i.e. radio interference) that's the issue, there seems to be a serious problem with the last couple newer versions.. Try downgrading to firmware version R7000-V1.0.3.24_1.1.20Solved177KViews2likes22CommentsDoes the R7000 have the Quantenna 5GHz battery drain issue or has it been fixed?
Hi, I'm looking to upgrade my WiFi router and I'm considering the R7000, but don't want to buy a router that drains my phone battery when it's connected to the 5 GHz channel and can't see any point in upgrading if I end up having to stick to the 2.4 GHz I already have. I've experienced the issue recently, when connected to TalkTalks new router (from Huawai) and got fed up of waking up to a dead phone every morning. I've done a bit of googling and found that the Quantenna drivers lacked support for powersaving negotaition at 5 GHz so has this been fixed. So far I've only found a reference to the R7500 having this problem. So does anybody know if the firmware has been updated to fix the powersaving?
