I changed my wifi password with my Xfinity modem today. I am using my nighthawk router as an extender. I thought I had to update the password on my nighthawk to this new one though I am not sure this is necessary . I went to login to my nighthawk on the app but I get a " wifi not detected" message. I then tried to login on my pc using routerlogin.net and also the 192.168.0.1 but neither worked. First of all do I even need to do anything to my router if I simply changed my Xfinity wifi password? If yes, how can I access the admin panel on my router? Thanks for any help.77Views0likes1CommentDell Laptop with DropBox Crashes Netgear Router
I got an Inspiron 5567 Laptop with Windows 10 x64 for Christmas. Since then, the laptop crashes my Netgear R7000 router daily. At that point cannot login to the router at 192.168.1.1 (no response). I can Ping it. I can connect between all devices Wired/Wifi on my LAN. Powering the router off/on resolves the problem. I have factory reset the router and also tested a new R700P Netgear Router. No joy! My LAN includes 3 Laptops and 4 Desktop PCs using DropBox, one with Windows 7, the rest Windows 10. I have found that DropBox on the laptop causes the crash. DropBox usage at this point is only an occasional, perhaps weekly, update to my 25 KB SafeInCloud password file in the cloud. Below I have shown the DB discovery protocol trace for two IPs. IP 192.168.1.17, as an example, and the other 5 PCs have 2 trys. Only 192.168.1.50 (The Laptop) shows multiple trys. The laptop typically has 4 trys. This one capture is 6 trys, and I suspect it goes crazy sometimes and causes the crash. I have done a clean reset of windows on the laptop, worked with Dell to get the latest drivers, etc., and the problem still exists. I recently moved to my new apartments and got a new internet connection from comcast. I had bought a new CM500 Netgear Modem on which I recieve a good internet connection when connected through a ethernet cable. Once I connect this ethernet cable to my AC1900 - R700 Wifi router, I dont see the internet symbol turning into white LED color, instead it just stays in Organe color indicating that it has not internet connectivity. I am pretty sure the modem is doig it job correctly cause I simply plugged in the ethernet cable from the CM500 modem ot my laptop and I am able to connecte to the internet. This would simply mean that for some odd reason, the wifi router is not receiving connection from CM500 modem or something is wrong with the ethernet interface of my wifi router. I have tried to factory reset it several times, no luck so far. I paid $150 on this product and I hope someone here from Netgear Community can help me solve or troubleshoot this issue. Thanks. Nighthawk R7000 Firmware Version V1.0.9.18_1.2.27 I wanted to set up some IP cameras and other devices on a guest network that wouldn't have access to my actual local network. However, it seems like my only option is to "Let devices see each other and allow access to my local network." I need them to be able to see each other to work, but I don't want them to have access to my local network. I've gotta be missing something because this kind of kills a lot of the advantages one would hope to get when using a guest network. As it is, it's not really a "Guest Network."Solved673Views0likes2CommentsNighthawk ac1900 / R7000 stopped working
So I guess I can join the club of those who have the Nighthawk AC1900/R7000 that stopped transmitting WiFi. I read through the forum. I rebooted. I pressed the radio button multiple times. I updated firmware. I tried this https://kb.netgear.com/24101/How-do-I-enable-or-disable-the-wireless-radios-on-my-Nighthawk-router but the option to turn on and off the wireless radios is grayed out. Seems like the WiFi radio button might be broken??Solved45KViews0likes3CommentsNetgear R7000 not letting me login after putting it on AP mode
Hi, I remember first installing the R7000, I was displayed with either AP mode (not sure if that was what it was called) or regular mode. I chose AP mode, as I had slower connections on regular mode. Now that there have been so many updates, I want to update my R700 for security purposes. However, I am unable to do so, as everytime I try 192.168.0.1 or routerlogin.com. I am taken to my modems menu and not my netgear R7000 menu. The modem is a Netgear CG3000-2STAUS (Yes Optus provided modem). I've looked through many articles that have been suggested to me; however, none of them have address my issue. I tried restting both the modem and router, and when I do, all my devices are still connected to the router. Everything is the same and nothing changes when I try to reset. I hope there is an answer out there, tecnical support via telephone has passed, and so has the warranty.Solved726Views0likes11CommentsR7000 slow speed on mobile devices
Backstory.. had 100 Meg internet thru ISP and would get that over WiFi easily. They gave me a free speed upgrade to 200 Meg and now my mobile devices (Android phones/tablets and apple phones/tablets) will not get more than 45-50 Meg download. My laptop will get 200+ on WiFi easily, but all of our mobile devices cannot get past 45-50 Meg. I've tried changing between 2.4 and 5 GHz and no difference. I changed dns on router and still no difference. Also tried enabling and disabling ipv6 and still nothing. Even did a factory reset and reconfigured router and still nothing. Called my ISP and they say it's not them. I tend to agree with them as I am not sure how they could throttle my mobile devices. Although it's odd that it worked perfectly fine until they upgraded my speed. I did call the ISP to see about downgrading back to 100 Meg to see if it would work but doing that would cause me to get a data cap (have unlimited now). Anyone ever have experience with issues like this? Not really sure what to do next besides buy a new router, but my nighthawk is less than a year old.Solved2.6KViews0likes2CommentsR7000 Bricked after 1.0.9.12 update
Took "security" update via Router Interface connected over wired network. Router stayed off line for two hours, no response. Power cycling did not restore sanity. Hi, I recently got a Netgear CM1000 modem on my gigabit Xfinity connection. When I hook my laptop up to the modem directly I am getting close to a gigabit connection, at least above 900 Mbps consistently. But when I hook up (ethernet) through my R7000 with fully upgraded stock firmware I'm still just getting around 200 Mbps which is the speed I used to have before my connection was upgraded. What could the reason be for me not getting any speed increase when connecting through the router? As far as I can see the the router should be able to handle the speed.Solved16KViews0likes5CommentsR7000 being bricked?!?
So here is my story. I bought 2 different r7000 routers. One awhile ago and another recently. As my practice I ALWAYS upgrade to the latest RELEASED firmware for security fixes and new features. Well the first one I had, after upgrading the firmware, the 5GHz band was unusable. Everytime I connected to the 5GHz band it would make the router restart. Like it was crashing and restarting every few minutes. Since I bought it second hand I figured it may have been damaged in shipping. So I disabled the 5GHz band and had been running that way for a long time. With the recent update releases (V1.0.9.10_1.2.21) I decided to try again. The upgrade went fine but again it was rebooting when I enabled the 5GHz band. So I went to try to flash it back to an older one and I *THINK* it rebooted in the middle of the update. First one at this point seems to be stuck and no longer bootable (aka BRICKED). I tried the TFTP process to upload but it keeps failing saying it is getting no response. I decided to order an second one to replace a different older one (again R7000). This one arrived with version V1.0.4.30_1.1.67 installed. The 5GHz band seemed to be working with this particular router (short test of about 15 minutes with no reboots). So I decided to update to the latest thinking this router must be good then. After the update, I AGAIN started seeing reboots of the router. So I decided to revert back to the older one that seemed to work, but still again saw reboots. I was planning to go back further to the original release thinking maybe a new driver in the image is the issue. So in the middle of installing the oldest version I was comfortable with (V1.0.2.194_1.0.15) IT REBOOTED AGAIN!!! So this is the second one that has bricked on me (same state as the first one). I tried the TFTP update process, with no response from the router. So just out the box and it is bricked. I don't know if there is older hardware inside or if there is problems with the images themselves but it is sad that this is the state I am in. I am about to try something drastic that seems to work for most people to see if I can recover some use out of these but I need Netgear to do better on this. It is too common to not have been investigated fully and fixed by now. For any person needing details on these routers I can provide anything you need to help troubleshoot. I don't have any advanced diagnostic tools (yet) but planning on getting a few. I am somewhat technically savy with networking just mostly focused on the programming and not detailed into networking. I am pretty sure (with 2 routers showing the same issue) that this is an internal driver issue that had not been reported or investigated based on other reports and reading about 3rd party firmwares like DD-WRT and Tomato having issues similar. Let me know if there is something that can help someone or if maybe I just have bad luck (not betting on the latter though).Solved5.6KViews0likes3Comments
