I'm new to VPN but learn quickly. I'm trying to setup VPN on my router for a layer of security for my home. I am getting error messeges with openVPN. Following the instructions on the router, many forums, and the OpenVPN resources, I am not able to get this working. I receive this error "warning: no server certificate verification method has been enabled. see http://openvpn.net/howto.html#mitm for more info." can someone please assist? Perhaps have a walk through other than what's just on the router? Thank you in advance.Solved25KViews0likes10CommentsR7500 not assigning correct IP addresses to wireless clients after firmware upgrade
I just updated my Nighthawk X4 R7500 to the latest available firmware, V1.0.0.108, and wireless clients no longer receive the correct IP address assignments after they connect to the 5.0 GHz wireless network. I have used the Nighthawk web interface to give an iPhone and a Mac fixed IP addresses (based on the MAC addresses of their wireless cards) when they connect, but both devices are receiving addresses in my DHCP range, instead. This did not happen on the V1.0.0.94 firmware I was previously using. Has anyone experienced something similar?Solved7.1KViews1like16CommentsR7500 - Unable to edit Dynamic DNS settings
I am experiencing the same issue reported by several others at the closed thread: https://community.netgear.com/t5/Nighthawk-WiFi-Routers/R7500-Dynamic-DNS-Issue/m-p/1057157 After I enter my DynDNS settings on the Dynamic DNS page in the R7500's web interface and save them, I am no longer able to access the Dynamic DNS configuration screen. All attempts to access the page are met with the loading message, and the page can never be accessed again unless I reset the R7500 to factory defaults. Has this been fixed in the latest available firmware, V1.0.0.108? Or, is this still broken? Looking for community feedback. Thanks.Solved3.7KViews0likes4CommentsNighthawk X4 AC2350 - Upload Speed Throttling Issue
Hello everyone, I was hoping to get some insight into an issue I'm having with my r7500. I have FIOS through frontier with a 75/75 plan. For a while I've been wanting to switch from the coax connection on the ONT and the old Verizon router that was provided when my roommate had the service installed years ago, and instead go to using the ethernet connection and my R7500. The house we are renting was already wired with cat5, so when we had a technician come to replace the dying backup battery on the ONT yesterday, I had him wire up the ethernet connection while he was here. I have all the PC's in the house hardwired with Cat6, but I wanted to get a 5GHz connection again for the tablets and phones that supported it, and was hoping for maybe a little performance bump as well. The install and configuration went fine up until I started running speed tests. Once my internet was confirmed working the technician left, not that he necessarily could have fixed this, but in hindsight I should have kept him around to verify the connection and speed was good. Running through Verizon's old router with coax to the ONT I consistently got 80-90Mbps both ways. With my new configuration I'm still in the normal range on the DL speed with 75-85, but my upload speed is now basically capped at 30-33Mbps. I have connected directly to the ONT in the garage with my laptop and the tests come back fine, 80-90 both directions. I connect directly to my pc in the office, and the connection is fine again. The problem only arises when I put the router in the way. I'll list my troubleshooting steps now so that maybe someone can find a flaw in what I'm doing, or can suggest a new course of action. I would love to keep this configuration since it helps out the mobile devices a lot, but beyond that, it's not really too much of a drag to go back to the old setup. I'll just deal with the psychologically added latency of thinking about my fiber getting transformed to coax, and then finally to cat5/6 before I can Juan Deag dem n00bz in CS:GO. It's mostly just bugging me that I can't figure out what's holding it up. Also, when running the same speed tests on my phone, I am consistently getting upload speeds of 40-50, or about 10/20Mbps higher, which seems strange to me. 1) The first thing I did was perform a factory reset on the router. I figured maybe I had some settings causing a problem from my old residence where I was using Cox. I tested again before changing any settings, but this had no effect. 2)QoS. Based on my research this seems to be the most likely culpret. My dynamic QoS was off by default, but i tried enabling and setting my bandwidth paramaters. Ran the test, still the same. Disabled it again, no change. I also tried disabling and enabling the WMM settings as well, no change. I then tried all of these again, this time rebooting the router each time, and no change. I tried artificially setting my QoS values high and low. I had no change regardless of how high i set them. However, I did see a change when setting my upload value low. My upload speed was limited to the QoS value until I changed it to higher than I was previously getting and then it would just continue at where it was previously capped at. ~30-35. 3)DMZ. I put my computer in the dmz to see if that would help out, but it didn't. 4)Wireless AP. I tried setting the router as a wireless AP, to see if using it in a switch or passthrough type of configuration would help, but no change. 4)Firmware. I downloaded the latest firmware from the netgear page. I confirmed I was using the most current firmware using the autoupdate function. Then factory reset and loaded the newly downloaded firmware. Factory reset again after install. No change. 5)Ran the SG TCP/IP Optimizer. Tested between windows default and optimized settings both running through the router and with a direct connection. Still good speeds running direct, same 80/30 going through the nighthawk. That's about all I've done and I'm kind've running out of ideas. Anyone have any thoughts on what the problem is or any other steps I can take? Any help is much appreciated and thanks in advance for taking the time to look at this! I activated a new cable internet modem today and my LAN throughput, as measured via speedtest.net, dropped significantly Internet Provider: Comcast, Tier: Performance Pro Setup: Arris SB6190 -- R7500v2 -- wired PC Up until noon today, i was running an older Motorola SB6120 cable internet modem (DOCSIS 3.0 4x4 channels). I bought this right when Comcast upgraded to DOCSIS 3.0 to enjoy the benefits. The 6120 is getting old and I wanted to upgrade to a newer modem and bought the Arris SB6190... trying to future-proof myself, at least for the *near* future in the DOCSIS 3.0 context. Speeds (via speedtest.net): SB6120 (4 down/4 upstream channels): --Router (via the QoS config page/speedtest.net): ~90Mbps down/~6Mbps up --PC: ~80 down/6up SB6190 (16 down/4 up-- 6190 supports 32, but only 16 bonded for my service): --Router: ~90Mbps/6Mbps --PC:~21Mbps/6Mbps Details: --R7500v2 firmware 1.0.3.4 --QoS = Off --Traffic monitoring = Off --Guest Network = Disabled --NIC on the PC is set to auto-negotiate 10/100. It's a integrated NIC on my HP PC, NVIDIA nForce 10/100 I got a case, called support, went through the following: --Changed 2.4 wireless channels to 11, then 9 (I just did what they asked... how this impacts LAN traffic, I don't know) --Changed MTU size to 1432 --Reset to factory settings None of the following resolved the issue; still only getting ~21Mbps at the PC when the Router is used. However, if I bypass the R7500, plugging the PC into the SB6190, then i'm back to ~90/6Mbps down/up speeds. I've seen other similar reports (via some internet searches) but no real solutions. Anyone resolve a similar issue? Thanks!Solved7.1KViews0likes4CommentsR7500 System Time Not Correct
The system time on my Netgear R7500 Router is not correct and is reading Dec 31st, 1969. I have a static IP set using googles DNS servers, I have attempted reseting the router to the factory image, downgrading then re-upgrading to the latest firmware, several reboots, etc... There is no NTP setting on the router itself so I am pretty much stuck with no way to correct the system time. I am trying to use the VPN on the router it is not working properly and I am betting this likely has to do with the time being off. Any help is greatly appreciated. No this is not a "feature request" posting, but another highlight of Netgear not being ontop of their own "active" (not EOL) product line. The original Netgear R7500 and the revision R7500v2 need firmware updates that contain the updated SSL key from Qualcomm Atheros to allow owners to access database updates for the Dynamic QoS (QCA Streamboost-based). Without this update, R7500 and R7500v2 owners can only update the QoS database file to the one dated April 2015. Owners can not get the database update that was issued by Qualcomm in August 2015 and the latest from December 2015; not to mention any other database updates coming. The new SSL key was added starting in the v1.0.0.28 firmware for the January 2016 released R7800. At best, users know that Netgear is months behind on getting this out to it's users as the new keys I am told were issued in the second half of Summer 2015 and here we are less than a month from the first day of Spring 2016 (March 20th).Solved9.3KViews0likes15CommentsNot getting full bandwidth 300/20 on r7500v2
ISP- Time Warner Cable Speed - 300/20 Router - nighthawk x4 r7500v2 Firmwares I've tried - 10.0.24 - .28 I currently have the Arris DG1670A modem/router in BRIDGED mode and the nighthawk r7500v2 connected. When I test speeds in the QOS speedtest the highest is 124mb/s. I do speedtest on speedtest.net and it goes from 320 and drops to about 120-210mb/s. Same applies with speedOf.me speedtest and DSLreports. Then there are timessage where I only get about 15mb/s down but I have to keep rebooting or restoring to factory settings to get back to the higher speeds mentioned. I'm currently at a loss on what actually is the problem. I just bought the router two days ago. Yes, when I plug directly into modem I get full speeds even 320mb/s at times as well.Solved6.1KViews0likes7Commentsr7500 Bricked After Latest Firmware Update from Dashboard
Hello. I bought my r7500 on May 28, 2015 and it's been working great. This evening I saw that the network control panel showed a new firmware update was available. I'm connected via ethernet and initiated the update. After a few minutes I had no connection. I figured it was due to the update still running so I waited. After several minutes I went to the router and found that it showed a white light for the computer connection I was on plus two other connections that showed orange and the power light was solid orange. I power cycled it and it stayed orange. I've attempted numerous resets, tried to ping it to the previously set IP address I was using as well as the reset IP 192.168.1.10 (also tried 192.168.1.1) and I get no response. I did a 30/30/30 reset and that doesn't do anything either. I started to call support twice but was on the line for over 10 minutes each time. I'm past the 90 day phone support window so I'm essentially stuck with a dead device. I work from my home office so it's pretty imperative that I get up and running quickly. I may have to buy a new router and RMA this one. Not sure. Any options for me to possibly manually reset via a different firmware or another method I've not tried to get it to allow me to at least ping it so I can do the manual firmware update?Solved7.7KViews0likes2Comments
