120 TopicsSetting up login credentials for OPEN VPN
Hello, I have a Nighthawk R7000 rooter with a default OS (which I can't change). I have for several years activated the vpn service with open vpn which works very well. However, I'd like to increase security to connect to my rooter (and therefore to the connected nas server): set up a login and password connection. Is there a (simple) solution for this type of connection via open vpn? Is it possible to give rights to certain identifiers or remove them? I'd like to stop distributing the identification key, but to grant connection rights. Thank you in advance for your reply. Hi all, I just made this account so that I could post an issue and it's fix. I have the Nighthawk X4 AC2350 (R7500v2) and for a while now the media hard drive I have connected via USB using ReadySHARE just vanishes from the media server list all my home devices (TV, Xbox, Playstation, Phone etc...) about 5 to 15 minutes after setting it up or rebooting to get it to work. So basically I connect a hard drive, set it all up via ReadySHARE and it's there, visible on all devices for a VERY short amount of time. Then it vanishes, I can't find it on any device. I can however connect to the shared folders on it with my PC. It's had me stumped for ages. So much so I had just completely stopped using it for the last year. But I got a new hard drive and wanted to start using it again so I spent a long while trying to figure it out. I checked a lot of pages on here and noticed a lot of people had a similar, if not the exact same issue. After a lot of messing around I found a fix that seems to be working perfectly. I downgraded my firmware back to R7500v2 v1.0.3.40 (from 2019) and amazingly this fixed the issue. ReadySHARE is working perfectly again, So somewhere along the way Netgear basically broke it via one of the firmware updates (the latest version being: R7500v2 v1.0.3.50 Hot Fix). So this is a PSA; if you have this issue, downgrade your firmware to an earlier version from here: https://www.netgear.com/support/product/r7500v2#download (again R7500v2 v1.0.3.40 being the version that worked for me). If you have a different router and have this issue it might be an idea to try find an earlier firmware for your router too, something from around 2019. If anyone from Netgear reads this please FIX THIS ISSUE IN A NEW FIRMWARE UPDATE! Hope this helps someone. Cheers! 🤘2.9KViews0likes9CommentsNeed restore SMB1 or SMB v1 support for ReadyShare Storage.
I use a small USB external HD in the ReadShare Storage as a music library for SONOS S1 controller. This has worked fine for years but for months now it is not working anymore. The SONOS support inform I need SMB v1 to use SONOS S1 controller and probably some router firmware upgrade should removed or disabled it. I can not find in the Nighthawk R7000 configurations where to re-enable SMB v1 support or what should be the firmware I need to use. Can someone help me?Solved268Views0likes13CommentsR6700v3 Readyshare asking for Password when no password is required
I have a hard drive plugged in the USB port. For the share, read and write are BOTH set to "All - No Password". Computers connecting by WiFi are able to connect without password. But the device always prompts my desktop connected by LAN for password the first time I access it. Why is this computer treated differently? Why does it ask for a password to access the USB folder when no password is required? All computers are running Windows 10. Thanks for any help / suggestions you can give.1.3KViews0likes1CommentNetgear Nighthawk X4 AC3250 R7500 READYSHARE drive denying write access.
I have a USB drive connected to my router's USB port. In the past, I have never had issues with permission, but I recently put a different drive on my router and now there are certain folders in Windows that I cannot write to. Here's what I've done so far... 1) Verified the router is set up correctly with "All" access in the router's configuration. 2) I disconnected the router and connected it directly to my computer, went to the folders and gave all access to Everyone in the property tag. Some things to know... 1) The drive was in use prior on my PC and connected as a NTSF shared drive prior to moving it to my router. I never had any permission problems accessing it as a shared drive on my PC from other computers in the house. 2) It's formatted as a NTSF drive. 3) The Window's based permissions give full access of every kind (all checkboxes checked) for Everyone, Administrator, and authenticated users when attached directly to the PC and accessed through Windows. 4) The drive it replaced was formatted the same with with the same Windows permissions prior to it's being connected and never gave me these errors either. Some of my questions I hope someone can answer... 1) Are the unix permissions accessible in some way so I can go in and change the permissions on ALL directories to drwxrwxrwx and files to -rwxrwxrwx ? 2) If I can't do 1 above, is there something else I can do to fix this?942Views0likes2CommentsNighthawk R7000 AC1900 the 5G Wifi keeps disconnecting - possible answer
Well I just bought and set up a new Nighthawk R7000 AC1900 router, but during the first few days of use I noticed my phone frequently switching from the 5G wifi to the 2.4G wifi. So I started to investigate and found that the 5G kept disappearing from scans, on several devices. I checked the 5G light/button on the router and it was staying lit solid white. Then after many router setting configurations I feared that it might be defective so I swapped it for another one at the store before the exchange time could run out. I get home, I set it up, and it has the same problem, the 5G wifi keeps disconnecting! I figured I'll check online, hoping for a solution. Now I wasn't willing to downgrade my firmware, version 1.0.11.116_10.2.100, as the original reason for getting a new router was for security reasons. Of the few other available options I found, when I tried the suggestion of changing channels it turned out that other channels did seem to make a difference but not a cure. I found that 153, my channel, was the worst with the most frequent disconnects, every few seconds, others getting progressively better each step away in either direction. With all the other networks in my neighborhood 153 was the best choice for mine. So... After more digging through the interface some more I finally found a setting for "beamforming" that is enabled by default. I tried disabling it and low and behold, I now have a rock solid 5G connection! To find this setting, use the web interface not the Nighthawk app. Use the advanced settings by selecting the Advanced tab at the top. Next click the Advanced Settings selection on the left side, under that click on Wireless Settings. Now in the window on the right, scroll down and look for the second from the bottom option that says "Enable implicit BEAMFORMING - Boosts WiFi speed, reliability, & range for all mobile devices". Uncheck its box, then scroll back to the top and click the Apply button. After the system applies the new setting you will hopefully have the same positive results that I've had. Good luck.913Views0likes2CommentsNighthawk X10 Smart WiFi Router (R9000)
I have had this router for 5 years and it is 5 STAR. Putting a connected device in 'blocked' mode by using access control still allows for secret data to be exfiltrated out of the device and onto the WAN by using UDP protocol. Apparently the "blocked" status only applies to TCP.686Views0likes1Comment- 872Views0likes2Comments
