Calling all Netgear Orbi Mesh geniuses: I NEED YOUR HELP

Bear with me, friends..

I purchased an ORBI ROUTER/MODEM with modem and 3 satelites. We are old folks. In our 60s, but we still work and during the pandemic needed towork from home. I also teach collge courses after my real job. When the pandemic hit, I was forced to tache remotely. I'm only sharing so that you will understand how important internet wifi is to us, even though we are tech dopes.

When I bou the system from bestbuy, I hired the tech to set it up. I had several problems after the set up. I spent 75 hours on the phone on hold and speaking to both netgear tech support and spectrum internet support. I prayd that it wouldn't act up.

During this hurricane, we lost our electricity and nternest for 30 hours. I gave up. I went to spectrum and picked up their modem and router so that i could have support when things went wrong I have a separate modem and roter. They are all set up and working beautifully.

I now have $1000. of less than 6 month old orbi como router meodem, medem, and 3 satelites.

The nice woman at spectrum told me to find someone that can connect the spectrum equipment to the orbi mesh to make it communicate and work ncely.

I found some posts from really smart people that did this by themselves, so I guess it is possible.

I'm too dumb to do this, so I searches to find a genius technician to hire to set this up. I found you.

Do you know where I cn find a technician that i can dire to set this up so that it will work for me?

THANKS!

AMW

  • What Firmware version is currently loaded?

What is the Mfr and model# of the Internet Service Providers modem/ONT the NG router is connected too?

What was the problem with the Orbi CBK system. What were you seeing problems with?

Have the ISP check the signal and line quality UP to the modem.

Be sure there are no coax cable line splitters in the between the modem and ISP service box.

Be sure your using good quality RG6 coax cable up to the modem.

What is the size of your home? Sq Ft?

What is the distance between the router and satellite(s)? 30 feet or more is recommended in between RBR and RBS to begin with depending upon building materials when wirelessly connected. https://kb.netgear.com/000036466/How-far-should-I-place-my-Orbi-satellite-from-my-Orbi-router

What channels are you using? Auto? Try setting manual channel 1, 6 or 11 on 2.4Ghz and any unused channel on 5Ghz.

Any Wifi Neighbors near by? If so, how many?

Try enabling Beamforming and MIMO(MIMO may or may not be needed) and WMM. Under Advanced Tab/Advanced Settings/Wireless Settings

    Not seen on Orbi AX.

Also try turning down the power output of the RBRs wifi radios from 100% to 50% and see if this changes anything. Under Advanced Tab/Advanced Settings/Wireless Settings

Try disabling the following and see:

Armor, Circle, Daisy Chain, Fast Roaming, IPv6 and Set 20/40Mhz Coexistence to 40Mhz only. Set Short preamble instead of Long preamble modes.  Save settings and reboot the router and satellite(s).
