Change satellite from Access Point to Orbi Router?
Hi
I have a satellite that was originally an RBR50 router, but that I converted to an RBS50 satellite.
It seems to work.
However, if I log on to the satellite itself, via webgui, it first shows a page that says
"Your Orbi Satellite is not connecting to the Orbi network"
It is however connected to the router.
I can then click "OK", to get to the main page.
At the top of the main page, it says
"Your access point has no connection to the router. Check your Ethernet connection."
Another original satellite says
"Your Orbi Satellite connection is up and running."
Note the difference here, where the first satellite says "Your access point has no connection..."
While the other says "Your Orbi Satellite connection..."
So there's a difference here in "access point" and "satellite".
Apparently my converted unit identifies as an access point rather than as a satellite.
When I checked up the webpage source, I found there are several different alternatives that can show upp here, see list below. First three relating to "Orbi satellite", and then there's three relating to "Access point", and one of those three mentions "Ethernet connection", implying that "access points" refers to the unit having the backhaul connection via cable rather than wireless.
"Your Orbi Satellite connection is up and running."
"Move your Orbi satellite closer to your Orbi router to improve the connection."
"The Orbi satellite can't connect to the Orbi router."
"Your access point is up and running."
"Your access point has no Internet access. Check to make sure that your router has an Internet connection."
"Your access point has no connection to the router. Check your Ethernet connection."
"Access Scheduling is currently on."
What is also peculiar is that this unit only connects via 2.4G to the router, not via 5G like the other satellites, and I have moved them around. It's always this one on 2.4 and the others always on 5.
So I assume somehow the converted unit thinks it is or should be a wired access point rather than a wireless satellite. So my question is, how do make it "understand" that it is an Orbi Satellite and not an access point?
I can use telnet/ssh or the serial console to make changes to the system, so no limits on that part.
EDIT:
Hmm, it just hit me. The router has a Router/AP selection in the WebGUI, but this only goes for the router.
Could it be that if I converted this unit back to an RBR50 it would show that setting as AP, and if I then change it to Router, and then converted it back to an RBS, it would work?
But in that case, surely, somehow I can make that change directly on the unit as it is now. Question is how?
Or is this thought totally wrong?

Something to make contact with those that provided you the path to convert a RBR to an RBS.
Might try a TFTP to reflash stock RBR FW back on to the converted RBR.
How to flash stock RBR firmware back on the unit is no issue, and there's no need to use tftp to do that.
My question here is regarding why the unit reports as being an "Access Point" instead of being an "Orbi Satellite".
What setting makes this difference for an RBS50, and where to find it?Something in what is programmed in the code that converted the RBR to RBS. Something to ask the providers of that.
Flashing back to stock should revert the RBR back to stock operation. Possible the conversion change makes changes to areas of FW that should not be changed or is not getting converted.
There are no user configuration settings for RBS. All is controlled from the main RBR when stock FW is used.
You'll need to consult those who you got the conversion FW from about that.
This forum is for stock FW running systems.

"Your access point has no connection to the router. While the router firmware has an option to switch from 'router mode' to 'access point mode', there is no similar feature on the satellite. There are some Orbi products which have the ability to be either a satellite or an access point, such as the RBS40V and the RBS50Y. The RBS50 has no such option.
However, the wording of the question appears to imply that the device is performing as a "satellite". (i.e. "It seems to work.") Is that because:
- Devices connect to the device and have internet access?
- The router Attached Devices page shows it as a satellite? (at the top of the display)
- The Attached Devices page shows user devices connected to it?
