Connection problems RBK50 and Qualcomm Atheros QCA61x4 (Acer)

I'm running my RBK50 for about one week but having issues just with one laptop. It is my Win10 Acer with the Qualcomm Atheros QCA61x4 Chipset. If I get the laptop connected (which is not very often), the whole Wifi gets slow until the Acer disconnects. Then everything is back to normal. Connecting the Acer to my Speedport Router or my Samsung Hotspot, everything is fine, no issues at all.

Are there any known issues with this particular Chipset?

  • What FW is currently loaded on the Orbi?

What channels are you using? Auto or manual 1, 6 or 11 on2.4ghz or any channels on 5ghz?

Have you disabled Beamforming, MIMO, Daisy chain and Fast Roaming?

Is WMM enabled or disabled? Should be ENABLED.

Sorry for the late reply. Here are the answers:

      Orbi Router-Firmware:
      V2.1.4.10

Channels: Auto is set on 2.4 GHz and 36 on 5 GHz.

Daisy-Chain is enabled, everything else is disabled.

      WMM is enabled.

Laptop is running currently on the Speedport Wifi without any issues.

  • What wireless security modes are you using? Try WPA and TPIK only and test. Then try WPA2 and AES only.

Try setting manual channel 1,6 or 11 on 2.4ghz and any unused channel on 5Ghz.

Any wifi neighbors near by? if so, how many?

I would disable Daisy Chain as it's not needed. You can enable Beamforming and test as well.

Thanks everyone for your help and advice. I could find a solution after a while.

The Wifi driver was very old (last update from Acer in 2015). So I checked with a Ubuntu Live DVD and the problem was gone! As the vendor won't update the driver anymore, I checked on similar modells for a newer driver and found one from 2017. After updating the driver, the issue was solved!

From my point of view if the driver is too old, it doesn't fit with the newer Wifi Router chipsets...

That would be a problem. Glad you got it working.

        Enjoy.
