CONVERT RBR40 TO RBS40
I followed the instructions posted on reddit and it bricked my RBR40. I'm guessing I didn't start out with the right firmware version before starting the process. The reddit posts don't mention what the starting f/w version should be. Does anyone have that information?
The only conversion that I recall is turning an RBR50 into an RBS50. Are you certain that the hack you employed is intended for an RBR40?

Hi, thanks, yes, here are the instructions I followed:

I'd stick with discussing it on the reddit forum where members have done it as well as since its not a official procedure
CrimpOn is right. The only hack I know is the 50 series.
And its a disclaimer you can brick your device.
You won't find "hacks" on the official forum for netgear. That's why you were on reddit.
You can try recoving it with tftp or nmrpflash.
are you on windows? if so, follow this guide
https://kb.netgear.com/000059634/How-to-upload-firmware-to-a-NETGEAR-router-using-Windows-TFTP
just make sure you enable tftp
https://www.thewindowsclub.com/enable-tftp-windows-10
and here's a video walk through using a tftp client. Use the built in one for windows 10 though. the video is more of an example of how its done.

and if that doesn't work, you can try using nmrpflash
https://github.com/jclehner/nmrpflash
Otherwise you might have a bricked device. Good luck
