Orbi routers must be connected to the internet using an Ethernet cable from the WAN port (usually yellow). Once connected, the device can be put into 'router' or 'access point' mode, which determines what features are enabled.
It appears that what you want is a WiFi Extender, which connects to the home WiFi system through WiFi.

I have used an Orbi router on the "remote" end of a wired connection to the modem using Powerline Ethernet. Fine unless you have terrible mains wiring and ultra fast broadband. Mine is VDSL.
