Ethernet ports not working when internet is down
I have a orbi RBR50 setup on ppoe (we have CL) we had a internet outage the other day and during the outage we noticed that the lan ports did not seem to be working. We have a fire tv recast on our network and we were not able to access the recast to watch local channels on our areal antenna during the outage, I had to revert back to the gateway and basically remove the orbi system and use the gateways lan ports to get access to the recast on our TV’s. Why are the lan ports shutting down with an internet outage and how do I keep the lab ports up when the internet is down.
- If you run a Ethernet cable from from the orbi back to the modem and use one of the lan ports you can access the modem GUI to monitor your dsl stats so you would have 2 Ethernet cables to and from the modem one in the wan and one in the lan

What Firmware version is currently loaded?
Can you access the RBRs web page with a wired PC when this happens at 192.168.1.1?
What is the Mfr and model# of the Internet Service Providers modem/ONT the NG router is connected too?
Built in router here by chance? If so,
This would be a double NAT (two router) condition which isn't recommended. https://kb.netgear.com/30186/What-is-Double-NAT

Couple of options,
1. Configure the modem for transparent bridge or modem only mode. Then use the Orbi router in router mode. You'll need to contact the ISP for help and information in regards to the modem being bridged correctly.
2. If you can't bridge the modem, disable ALL wifi radios on the modem, configure the modems DMZ/ExposedHost or IP Pass-Through for the IP address the Orbi router gets from the modem. Then you can use the Orbi router in Router mode.
3. Or disable all wifi radios on the modem and connect the Orbi router to the modem, configure AP mode on the Orbi router. https://kb.netgear.com/31218/How-do-I-configure-my-Orbi-router-to-act-as-an-access-point and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H7LOcJ8GdDo&app=desktop- clrd4approachAspirantYes I have it set up on transparent bridging, I had to take the gateway with built in modem and turn off transparent bridging and unplug the the orbi system and just use the gateway with built in modem. I do not have a double NAT. The gateway is a zyxel gateway C3000. I have changed the orbi login to 192.168.0.2 so that if I need to get into the gateway I can.

As an experiment, I unplugged the CAT6 cable from my cable modem to the WAN port of my Orbi RBR50, thus disabling connectivity to the internet. My local network continued to work, both wired and WiFi systems. I could still access my NAS storage, IP cameras, TiVo (local recordings and over-the-air TV broadcasts) and other local devices. I do not have a FireTV recast so perhaps it depends on the internet. I do have several FireTV sticks, which of course did not work since they could not access the Internet for streaming services.
