Factory Reset RBK50 (RBR50 & 2xRBS50 Satellites)

Hello

I have had my system up and running for some time without issue, but recently added a Plex Server and HDHomeRun and had a minor issue. I would like to watch Live TV using the guide and Live TV & DVR through Plex rather than HDHomeRun app (Plex app has much better guide).

I have been having issues using Plex on Android TV boxes connected to Orbi satellites, but not on Android TV connected to router.

The Plex app just gives a spinning circle on screen and streaming does not start (HDHomeRun app works on same Android TV boxes, but not Plex). I think the Satellites are blocking the Plex server traffic, which is why I wanted to do factory reset.

I would do Port Forwarding, but that is not an option when RBR50 is in AP Mode. So, I wanted to do a Factory Reset to see if there are any changes.

In what order should factory reset be done? RBR50 first with all satellites off or could the RBS50s stay on while RBR50 is reset?

Thank you for any assistance.

the shield's transcoding capability isn't going to be the greatest. Try turning that off seeing if it helps.

The hardest part about it is you're actually going through 2 systems. The hdhomerun is sending the file to the plex at whatever quality you're using and then the plex is having to turn around and send it to your device.

For example, on my, if I have the live tv running, my server is using about 50mbps download to it (not upstream), its then transcoding the stream to a 15mbps stream which bounces between 2-50mbps (buffering) that it sends to my streaming device.

And thats on a rather stout server. Without knowing how well the shield handles that much bandwidth and if its transcoding or not, it could be why its having issues going through the plex and not using the direct app.

Satellites do not block traffic. What is the Plex server connected to?  (I have Plex running on a PC connected to the router and regularly say  "Alexa.... tell Plex to play....", which then comes out of the RBS40V satellite where I am exercising.)

I have heard of Port Forwarding being required when you want to connect to a Plex media server on the LAN from the internet.  This does not sound like what you are doing.

A "Factory Reset" will not change the firmware release on the router & satellites.  It simply erases all user configuration.

The most common advice is to update firmware on the satellites first, and then the router.  I have done it both ways and saw no difference.

      Thanks CrimpOn!

I have Plex Server running on all NVidia Shields connected to RBR50 & RBS50s. Each Plex Server uses the same HDHomeRun.

(what I love about this forum is the opportunity to learn about things I had no idea existed!)

After checking these web sources, I am convinced that I do not understand enough about this installation to make an intelligent response.

        https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HDHomeRun

        https://www.silicondust.com

For example, it's not clear (to me) exactly how the various components (HD HomeRun, Plex, NVidia, etc.) are connected.

Are programs watched on televisions?  HDMI cables?  Smart TV (Android TV for example)?

This is a fascinating discussion.  Maybe if you can educate me about what the heck this all is, and specifically what the issue is.....
