Firmware V1.12.0.18 Discussion
This does indeed appear to be based on (identical to?) the last private beta V1.12.0.16 and has been released to the public. Hope it helps!
Guest mode AP isolation finally works 100% over IPv4 and IPv6 - much happiness in my household. =)

- Fixes the Dropcam disconnection issue.
- Fixes the convergence issue when an Ethernet connected device moves from one Orbi to another.
- Fixes the issue where the Orbi app can’t find the Orbi router if the router is using IPv6 and is in AP mode.
- Fixes the issue where the Orbi app can’t display more than 20 connected devices.
- Fixes the issue where the installation assistant might not display if the device is connected to the Orbi network wirelessly.
- Fixes the issue where the 2.4 GHz backhaul setting is disabled if the fronthaul MU-MIMO and TxBF is disabled.
- Fixes the issue where IPv6 devices on the guest network can access the Orbi router’s web GUI.

Couple of comments.
I cannot disable the 2.4 GHz Radio. This sucks because my MacBook Pro has better performance when connected to the 5 GHz.
If I enable the 2.4 GHz Guest Network to connect my Sonos speakers and Nest, will I be able to connect them if my devices connect through 5 GHz network?

Do not connect Sonos to your guest network, please. Use regular WiFi network. And yes, 5G and 2.4G devices can see even other

Relative to ability to turn off a wireless band, wouldn't it be even more ideal to be able to click on the MAC address in the Attached Devices list and give the preferred or priority order for connectivity (e.g., automatic, prefer 2.4, prefer 5.8, or do not connect wirelessly)? In that way, you could let some device automatically steer while others were automatically steered to the preferred band?
I also note in my Windows machines that I can set a band preference in the Wi-Fi network card properties. Maybe this is an option to help you in the Mac world also?
In my case I have some Ring Pro doorbells with lower RSSI's when beamforming is enabled. I am not sure if the lower RSSI I get on them while beamforming is enabled is about a truly worse conenction or if it has steered to 5GHz so naturally the signal will be weaker but bandwidth potentially better. That is what drove my earlier hopes that they would display which band is connected in the Attached Devices list.

Is anyone else noticing a huge decrease in connection speed with the update? Not over wifi, but wired throughput to the internet. I have an 900Mbps connection, which reliably gave be speed tests of 750-850Mbps prior to updating to 1.12.0.18. since then both my upstream and downstream speeds have halved.
I've only owned the Orbi for a couple of weeks and I have to say, for the price I'm really disappointed. The broken QOS settings, MU-MIMO issues, implicit beamforming issues and general inconsistent and poor quality of the web admin tools is what I'd expect out of a budget router, not a premium priced product. And that said, there are plenty of budget routers out there with a far better and more polished software experience.
It really doesn't seem like Netgear are putting much resource into this product and unless they start to show a real commitment to this product soon, I'll be looking at cutting my losses and selling the Orbi on.

- la79ApprenticeHave you tried factory resetting the entire orbi? Perhaps that will clear it out.
- LanderxApprentice
I did try factory resetting. That did not work.

My connection suddenly got unstable a couple of days ago and now I see it came when my reouter updatede to the new firmware.
How do I go back the previous version that worked for me? - RonV42Luminary
So far so good with this firmware. I did a factory reset a while back when I was having all the mobile deviice disconnect issues which didn't solve it but after the upgrade to 1.11.0.20 the mobile device issue went away. Now in 1.12.0.18 everthing still seems to be stable. I have a tasker task on two android devices to monitor wifi connects and disconnects and neither of them are seeing any disconnect isssues.
I did notice that a few options now have been removed such as power configuration for wifi. I used to keep my power at about 50% so the neighborhood wouldn't be seing my routers but that setting is gone. I assume it had effects on backhaul performace and stability.
Also having a USB port that can do something is better than nothing. The usb port can now share printers. I do wish they would get around to making it mass storage capabile.
Like many others, I have the following problem. Firmware auto-updated and I lost the satellite. The satellite shows as a connected device, but does not operate as a satellite. Factory-reset everything and still doesn't work. I should note that after factory-resetting, the satellite does initially install as a satellite, but when I unplug it, to relocate the unit, it reverts back to a connected device.
I have been able to solve the issue (temporarily) by manually reverting the satellite back to 1.11.02.20. I've left the firmware on the router at 1.12.0.18. The problem, of course, is that the satellite only works for a while because it then auto-updates to the new firmware and the pooch is screwed once again.
Question - Is there any way to prevent the satellite from auto-updating the firmware?

WARNING TO SONOS USERS : V1.12.0.18 update resulted in Sonos not being able to connect to Boost that is connected to Orbi router by ethernet. Has anyone else experienced this problem and found a cure? In the meantime, I have manually re-installed V1.11.0.20 and Sonos now works again.
Similar to Replevin, I would like to know if there is any way to prevent the router and satellite from auto-updating?
- OrbiPhilipLuminaryPersonally, disabling updates should always be an option. If you disable it, I will find a way to block it.
But until the bugs are worked out it is absurd to remove that feature - scornwellApprentice
So I did some testing, with the newest firmware (V1.12.0.18) I can't get better than 420Mbps throughput over ethernet to the internet, with the older version (V1.11.0.20) I get the full speed of my internet connection, 700-850Mbps. I've confirmed by downgrading and upgrading a couple of times, the results are consistent. Ping also seems to have doubled from 6ms to 12ms, what gives?
Does anyone else have a high speed connection they can test?
- scornwellApprentice
I can also confirm rolling back to V1.11.0.20 fixes the issue with connected devices all being listed as wired.
If I delivered software in this state I'd lose my job.
Hello,
firmware seems to have an issue not listed in this topic for me...
My laptop works well and devices wired to the satellite also, but my Iphone keeps asking me the admin login / password when I want to connect to websistes.
If I log in, it works well for a short time, and after it asks again to log in (probably when the admin session expired).
Has anyone experienced that ? (very annoying so I stopped using wifi on my Iphone ...Aloys
- DUSTOFF2GuideYes it works great for me
- OrbiManLuminaryFor most part firmware is doing OK. However signal strength reporting on genie app is bogus.
Just downgraded manually to previous firmware. I do not understand why much of the functionality has been removed. I did not have time to debug and check various options, but the latest firmware broke wifi switches, my satellite was disconnected, and I started getting all sorts of disconnects.
I also switched off all FW updates so that I can choose when to update - it definately wont be V1.12.0.18!!!

Many people have reported it even DarrenM commented he will bring to Engineering attention, as to when and if it gets fixed is a separate story
