Fundamental bug in Orbi STILL has not been fixed.
Even with the latest FW V2.7.3.22 the Orbi mesh still has a fundamental bug, which prevents some clients (typically connected to an Orbi satellite) from reaching certain other clients in my home network. Access to the internet works fine. In my case the client that tends to be unreachable is the Synology NAS, which makes it extra annoying, because it means I can't get to the data on the NAS from my laptop. If I connect via my Asus router instead of the Orbi RBS20 satellite the previously unreachable NAS becomes reachable. Often the SiliconDust HDHomerun tuner that is connected to an Orbi RBS20 satellite via ethernet also becomes unreachable. Also annoying, because it means some of my shows no longer get recorded. I have wasted a lot of time trying to get things to work (different FW, factory reset, different settings e.g. with and w/o daisy-chaining with and without beam forming). None of them have worked. This has been a long standing bug that has been raised by me and others in various Neatgear Forum posts, but so far there has not been a solution or bug fix.
If I reset and restart the RBR20 router, then things tend to work for a while. It appears to be a software problem, because while the Synology NAS may be unreachable (no SMB, no ping response), I can connect to a Virtual Machine (that has its own IP address running on the same Synology NAS) just fine.
Neatgear support has been non-existent and I am afraid that if I use the paid-for support the recommendation is just going to be to do a factory reset and all the other things that I have already done. It will just be throwing good money after bad. My set of 1 RBR20 router plus 3 RBS20 satellites has not been cheap and I would have expected that Netgear would be prepared to fix a severe issue like this in a reasonable amount of time, but unfortunately that has not been the case. Very disappointing. I feel all I can do at this point is to share my negative experience so others won't make the same mistake and buy a product that works instead of having to deal with an on-going source of frustration.

It is about time for me to invest in a home NAS (backups, Plex server, etc.) Would you mind sharing the model of Synology NAS that exhibits this problem with Orbi? I have only one RBR50 router, one RBS50 satellite, and one RBS40V satellite, so I am not entirely confident that I can reproduce the problem.
As was pointed out, there have been numerous posts regarding Synology NAS and Orbi. I confess not to have followed them closely (having no NAS at all, let alone a Synology NAS).
Thanks

I have a Synology DS-918+ and I have been very happy with it. Very stable and lots of excellent add-ons (like Plex server and the ability to run Virtual Machines and Dockers). I use it as my filer, a fax server and as my network DVR (Plex plus a HDHomeRun network tuner). The Synology NAS is not the problem. When I connect my laptop via the Asus Router I can reach it just fine, but when I connect via an Orbi mesh device, then often I can't reach it. The Synology NAS is not the only client in my home network that has the issue.
My network is a bit more complex than a middle of the road network as I have a combination of ethernet switches, some ethernet over coax connections using MOCA and an Orbi mesh. My main router is an Asus. The Orbi RBR20 is being used in AP mode.

Thanks for taking the time to respond. Looks like I am not going to be able to reproduce this situation.
- Cannot put Orbi in AP mode.
- No longer have my MoCHA network connected.
Could you humor me (again) and indicate where on the attached diagram
- The NAS is connected
- MoCHA is connected
- Where a laptop cannot connect to the NAS
- Where a laptop can connect to the NAS
p.s. That is a LOT of NAS
