Having seperate issues, both connectivity and DNS

Unfortunately, there's no way to stop Netgear from advertising itself as the DNS server. You can try upvoting my suggestion to change this here.
In the meantime, you're only alternatives are to manually override the DNS settings on each devices, or to disable the DHCP server on the Netgear and deploy your own with more fine-grained control.
