If you are having "dropouts" with 2.5.1.8 firmware please read
I recently upgraded to firmware 2.5.1.8 to attempt to fix another problem I was having, but ever since I've noticed that the router seems to lose it's connection multiple times per day. As one other ...

So I experienced this today and whilst pinging 1.1.1.1 did NOT work, using 192.168.1.1 to get to the router admin page then and 'testing' the internet did indeed restore connectivity. I'm going to raise with Netgear.

What is the mfr and model# of the ISP modem/ONT that the Orbi router is connected too?
Swap LAN cables between the modem/ONT and Orbi RBR. CAT6 is recommended.
I would update to v16, factory reset and setup from scratch.

It's a Huawei Echolite I believe. If I update to that version and factory reset, can I restore from a config backup or literally have to go through the full setup again?

Does this modem have a built in router and wifi? If so, This would be a double NAT (two router) condition which isn't recommended. https://kb.netgear.com/30186/What-is-Double-NAT

Couple of options,
1. Configure the modem for transparent bridge or modem only mode. Then use the Orbi router in router mode. You'll need to contact the ISP for help and information in regards to the modem being bridged correctly.
2. If you can't bridge the modem, disable ALL wifi radios on the modem, configure the modems DMZ/ExposedHost or IP Pass-Through for the IP address the Orbi router gets from the modem. Then you can use the Orbi router in Router mode.
3. Or disable all wifi radios on the modem and connect the Orbi router to the modem, configure AP mode on the Orbi router. https://kb.netgear.com/31218/How-do-I-configure-my-Orbi-router-to-act-as-an-access-point and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H7LOcJ8GdDo&app=desktopIt's recommended to reset and setup form scratch. See if the problem still happens. You can apply the config file and test as well after the reset. If it happens use the backup config after the reset, it would need another reset and setup from scratch with out loading the backup config file to see if the problem happens again.
