Impossible to install Arlo Go2 camera on Orbi RBK53
The Arlo Go2 camera needs a phone with the Arlo app connected to 2.4GHz. The RBK53 won’t let me choose the network, and the phone always connects to 5GHz. I’m not sure if there’s a way to temporarily ...

The original Orbi WiFi router (RBR50) has an option on the web interface to disable broadcasting the SSID on 5G.
It is on the Advanced Tab, Advanced Setup, Wireless Settings:
On the phone,
- "Forget" the Orbi WiFi
- Turn WiFi off and back on
- Search for your Orbi WiFi
- Enter password and Connect
Only the 2.4G WiFi will be visible and the phone should connect at 2.4G
After the camera is set up again, enable SSID broadcast on 5G again.
- P95357Mar 03, 2025GuideThank you. I found this procedure and tried it before posting. I unchecked the “enable SSID broadcast” in 5G, hit apply, logged out and restarted the router. With the phone procedure done, I put the Wi-Fi password again and it shows up listed under 5G in the Orbi app. Regardless, I tried the installation procedure in the Arlo app and the camera doesn’t read the QR code that is shown in the Arlo app so the procedure cannot be completed successfully. The app then leads me to troubleshooting steps and the very first item is to ensure the phone is in a 2.4GHz band.

After you hide the 5Ghz SSID in Orbi, go into your phone and Forget the SSID connection (to make sure it forgets the 5Ghz band). Then add it again (this time it can only see and use the 2.4Ghz band). Now try setting up your Arlo camera again.

One of the benefits of cameras is they can "see things" (unlike other devices such as smart plugs, light bulbs, garage door openers, etc.) This makes the connection process SO much easier because:
- The smartphone app can create a QR code containing the SSID/password of the WiFi connection.
- Factory Resetting the camera causes it to start looking for a QR code.
- Showing the QR code to the camera provides the information needed to for the camera to connect.
- Since the camera is looking for a WiFi connection that matches the SSID/password on the QR code, it will "see" the Orbi on whatever WiFi frequency band the camera supports. (I have cameras that contain only 2.4G WiFi radios and cameras that have both 2.4G and 5G WiFi capability.)
Would it be possible to have some other device "look at" the QR code displayed by the smartphone app so that you can see the contents? (There are several apps for Android that will do this. Obviously the smartphone cannot "look at itself", so there needs to be another device.)
