Jackery Power Station - 2.4G Rant!

Purchased one of the top rated portable power stations from Jackery.  Packaging - great.  Appearance and function - great.  Features - great.  Smartphone app connects immediately with Bluetooth - great.

Will not connect to Orbi RBR50 WiFi.  "Please set your WiFi to 2.4G."  - - - What?  In 2024???

When the app displays a list of available WiFi networks, it is obvious that this list does not come from the 2.4G WiFi in the power station, but rather from the  device running the Jackery smartphone app (which is, of course, connected to the Orbi WiFi at 5G.)

Yes, I have several methods to outwit the stupid app and get the product connected to Orbi at 2.4G.  But WHY must the customer do this in 2024???

Selecting Support on the Jackery web site leads to...... nothing.

Of course, I probably will not connect this thing to WiFi because...

  • When the power goes out, not only does my house lose power, but so does Spectrum.  I already have the entire network on UPS (mostly to protect against surges and very short power 'blips').
  • Any time I'm going to use it, my Bluetooth phone will be right at hand.
  • If I take it "out somewhere", my home WiFi will not be there, either.

It is just annoying to find this issue on a $600 product purchased in Fall, 2024.

This is something to post to the Mfr and other IoT Mfrs that haven't taken to heart that phones and pads are dual band devices and prefer 5Ghz over 2.4Ghz and also being on the same network, why do those Mfr limit there setup software to only require 2.4Ghz. They set this limitation. NG only helped users out with adding the separate IoT network on AX, AXE and BE systems so user could get past the IoT Mfr silly design. Ya, Send this to them. You'd think someone there would have the ability to make there setup software work on either frequency with the mobile setup device. But maybe there just being cheep and don't want to spend the what ever extra is is to develop and test on dual band phones and pads. And users then blame router Mfrs for not being able to disable Smart Connect on MESH systems historically.

Yes, if I ever discover a way to contact their support and post messages, I'll unload on them.

      (Just needed to vent.)

        good venting.

Your ideas are exactly right. Why do you want wifi on something that is designed to function in the absence of power or internet. all it does is burn more power that could be better served elsewhere.
