You will want to have all units on the latest firmware you could see issues if the routers and satellites are on different firmware.

Since this a new install , how do I check and then update firmware as I proceed?
Can I setup with the existing firmware and then update the rbs50 and rbs40 first and then the router manually or will this happen automatically on the install.

The rbs40 and rbs 50 have different firmware. 2.074, and 2.056. Does that matter ? Or is the “latest” ok?
I was successfully able to sync up RBR50 with RBS50 and RBS40. I purchased 2 kits (RBK50 and RBK43). This is how I did it.
1- Setup RBR50 router
2- RBS50 was already synced out of the box with RBR50
3- I reset first RBS40 by pressing reset button and restart it, wait for atleast 2-3 minutes after start.
4- Then clicked on Sync button on RBR50, causing blinking white
5- Then clicked on Sync button on RBS40, in few minutes I got solid blue on RBS40.
Repeat Step 3-5 for other RBS40 satellites.
This results in a spare RBR40. Waiting for Netgear to allow routers to act as satellite so I can add RBR40 as a satellite using same procedure. Hope that helps.
