Netgear Modem -> Linksys Router as Bridge -> ORBI

This configuration worked for a good while when I intially set it up. I did a firmware update on the Orbi router and then had IP conflicts after it resarted.
I have a netgear CM1000 cable modem which unfortunatly only has one ehternet port which was connected directly to the Orbi router. What we needed to do is another wired connection from the modem for a desktop in that room. It cannot connect to Orbis they are in different locations and already have devices connected. I had a Linksys EA7300 AC1750  and read it can be used as a switch or bridge and connect to another router.

Been reading everyhere trying to get this to work.
Tried https://www.techwalla.com/articles/how-to-make-a-linksys-router-a-switch
Tried https://www.linksys.com/us/support-article?articleNum=137888 with auto IP (have no idea what to put  for manual)
But that was having the Orbi have ip issues after restart
How do I set it up as a switch/bridge to connect devices to it and not as a router so it dos not cause conflicts.
Thanks

  • If you're trying to go Modem-->linksys-->Orbi  you're going to have problems if you're wanting the linksys to act as a switch and the orbi as the main device.

You could use that setup and place the orbi in AP mode and leave the linksys acting as the router. This would fix your ip conflicts because the linksys would handle that. And then just use the Orbi as wireless access and acting a satellites with ethernet options.

  • Or remove the Linksys between modem and Orbi. Place the Linksys after the Orbi.
