Netgear orbi app, cannot find orbi router or enable remote management from pc

Hey All,

Been scouring the boards and google but not finding anything related to the issues i have.  As the title says my devices cannot find the orbi router when on the wifi network.  Both my Pixel 2 or Iphone 8 keep saying they cannot detect the router when i launch the app.  I have tried doing a new setup for the router bunch once setup, it will re-connect to new wifi name (done this with 3 different names) and then not find the router.  I've disconnected cell data too so i'm only on the wifi and it still cannot find it.

On top of this i have connected via LAN and enabled remote management but it doesn't seem to show up there either when i login to my netgear account.  Any help would be appreciated!

  • My guess is that you will get more informed responses if you post in the Orbi "app" forum:https://community.netgear.com/t5/Orbi-App/bd-p/en-home-orbi-app   My sense is that most of us who follow this forum are more familiar with the web interface than with the "app".

My (dim) memory is that the app works only after the user has entered the Netgear user name and password that has been associated with the Orbi.  Then, it searches the local WiFi LAN and says, "hey.  I found the Orbi!"

Also, there seems to be two Remote Management capabilities.  One is set on the Orbi web interface and causes the Orbi to listen on the public IP address for connections to port 8443.  The other is through the app.  They are NOT the same thing.

Sorry if this seems confusing.  It certainly is confusing to me.

    What does that mean?

Can you connect your device to the wifi from the Orbi router?

You'll have to do that before you can use the Orbi app.

You will not be able to connect to the Orbi using Remote Management until yoiub have dine that and enabled this feature locally.

    Then there is this bit:

What is this my netgear account?

I ask because there are so many possible Netgear accounts that it helps to be clear what we are talking about.

CrimpOn , makes sense. I'll go post in the app area. as that is where my issues are with, not the web browser interface.

michaelkenward ,  my devices, i mean iphone, pixel 2, ipad, etc... non-desktop using the application netgear orbi. Yes, i am connected to the wifi from the router, but when connected it doesn't find the router.  I've even gone into airplane mode and turned on only wifi and still it has issues finding it.

The lan thing, Crimpon has answered. and looks like i need to close and post into the orbi app section.

      • I assume that this means that you can connect to the wifi and do stuff other than use the Orbi App.

One thing that has worked in the past is to remove the Orbi app and then to reinstall the thing.

One other question, is the Orbi working as a router or as a wireless access point?

In the same vein, what is the modem, if there is one, in front of the Orbi?
