Orbi Mesh system, Sky Router and a gigabit switch
Hi, I am looking at the Orbi Mesh system but am concerned it won't be compatible with my set up, (sorry if I get some of the terminology wrong). I currently have DSL internet connected to a Sky Modem/Router. This is then connected to a TP-Link 16-Port Gigabit Switch which provides the internet to our house wired-in system.
My understanding is that the Sky modem/router can not be put in modem-only mode, so most people use the Orbi in AP mode. I'm not sure how I would run the wired-in internet with this - would I need to keep it connected to the Sky modem/router, or put it via the Sky box? I worry that I'm spending a lot of money to "upgrade" but it will all be limited by the Sky system still being at the center?
Any help/suggestions/alternatives would be great,
Thanks
Anna

I would check with the ISP first to see what they require for connections to there services, and if the router can be changed to modem mode only, if the are any special configurations needed on a external router such as a Orbi system.
If your ISP Modem already has a built in router and wifi. This would be a double NAT (two router) condition which isn't recommended. https://kb.netgear.com/30186/What-is-Double-NAT

Couple of options,
1. Configure the modem for transparent bridge or modem only mode. Then use the Orbi router in router mode. You'll need to contact the ISP for help and information in regards to the modem being bridged correctly.
2. If you can't bridge the modem, disable ALL wifi radios on the modem, configure the modems DMZ/ExposedHost or IP Pass-Through for the IP address the Orbi router gets from the modem. Then you can use the Orbi router in Router mode.
3. Or disable all wifi radios on the modem and connect the Orbi router to the modem, configure AP mode on the Orbi router.

Try option #2 first...
