Orbi Netgear VPN solution possible?

At this moment I am using a RBR40 router with one RBS40 and one RBS20 satellite as my home network. In general it works great.

On some of my devices (cell phones, tablets, computer) I am using Proton VPN.

My question(s) now:

Could I protect all my devices in my home network with VPN using a VPN router?

As I understand, the RBR40 cannot act as VPN router. Therefore I am thinking about to purchase an additional separate VPN router.

My idea would then be

- to connect the VPN router to the modem of my internet provider (wired) and

- the RBR40 to the VPN router (wired or wireless?)

so that then all devices connected to my Orbi Netgear home network would have VPN.

Is this possible? If not, are there any other possibilities how to protect my Orbi Netgear home network with VPN?

Thankful for any hint, advice and support in this topic!

Herbert

This is correct.  I am not aware of any Netgear router (Nighthawk or Orbi) that supports VPN "Client" mode.

Orbi routers must be wired from their WAN port to the internet device with an ethernet cable.

I believe this will work. Would imagine that it wll be most straightforward if the Orbi is put into access point (AP) mode so that the VPN router andles all the address translation. Disable WiFi on the VPN router.
