Orbi or Nighthawk with access points?

Orbi is a router with, what is supposed to be, a fast backhaul with dedicated extenders.. Not mesh But, with everything wireless, bridged or back haul, YMMV. My vote for Ethernet connected AP's - autonomous or controller based. . Note sure about mesh with Ethernet backhaul. I don't get the concept.
EDIT: Orbi's auto firmware update feature (which can't be disabled and firmware that can't be rolled back, because it auto updates firmware again) would be a be show stopper, for me..
