ORBI RBR50 randomly drops internet or individual devices stop working

I'm running a 2 unit Orbi mesh, hard connected.  Orbi preiodically, about one a week or once every 2 weeks just drops internet or stops allowing devices to connect.  I have to reboot the primary router to restore connection.  Also, certian devices will stop working, seems my daughters phone is the worst, but others have had the same issue, My phone experienced it but only once.  I have Armor enabled and Circle.  Our internet provider is Spectrum, and I am using their modem. (FYI - not sure if related, when we first moved here a little over 2 years ago, I bought a netgear Nighthawk router, that router was having issues daily, same network drops, I had to return it, and bought another brand and had no issues with it until it just quit working altogether a couple months ago).

Thank you,

B

  • I used to have similar issues with my RBR50 which seemed to relate some of the automatic firmware updates causing issues with old settings on the router. What I did was ensured that the router was updated to latest firmware and did a reset to it (by pressing the reset button on the back with a pin) and did seemed to remove my random disconnect issues.

Hope that you get your issue sorted out!

  • What Firmware version is currently loaded?
What is the Mfr and model# of the Internet Service Providers modem/ONT the NG router is connected too?

What is the size of your home? Sq Ft?
What is the distance between the router and satellite(s)? 30 feet is recommended in between RBR and RBS to begin with depending upon building materials when wirelessly connected. https://kb.netgear.com/000036466/How-far-should-I-place-my-Orbi-satellite-from-my-Orbi-router

What channels are you using? Auto? Try setting manual channel 1, 6 or 11 on 2.4Ghz and any unused channel on 5Ghz.
Any Wifi Neighbors near by? If so, how many?

Try disabling the following and see:
Armor, Circle, Daisy Chain, Fast Roaming, IPv6 and Set 20/40Mhz Coexistence to 40Mhz only. Set Short preamble instead of Long preamble modes. Save settings and reboot the router and satellite(s). Seen others post issues with Armor and or Circle causing some problems over past few months. Lets try a factory reset and setup from scratch and this time don't enable Armor or Circle, let the system run for a bit and see if the problem continues.
