ORBI RBR50

If anyone knows why my OLD ORBI RBR50 is superfast, please let me know.

I can't believe I am writing this about ORBI RBR50 router and two satellites I purchased back in 2016. Back then I was having Internet speed issues…I gave up and replaced the ORBI with cox cable router and extenders.  A couple of weeks ago I decided to stop paying for the router and extenders and decided to invest in the eero pro Wi-Fi 6 system.  This system was awful.  The max speeds and range was terrible. The mbps was lower than 300 and lower than 100 in the second floor.  I gave up and decided that before I bought a new ORBI mesh system that I would try my old ORBI RBR50 and the two satellites I had put away in the garage. 

1. I first started by resetting all the units back to default settings.
2. I downloaded the ORBI app on my phone.
3. I plugged the ORBI to the modem Ethernet cable and power and I had Wi-Fi. I could not believe it!!
4. The first speed test was at 434 mbps!!! And 34.1 mbps upload!!  Incredible!
5. After a couple of tries, I added the two satellites.  I was getting strong signals!
6. I then logged in at orbilogin.net to secure the router and check on firmware. 
7. The firmware on my ORBI router was at v2.1.2.18.  Trust me, it took about an hour and a half to get my ORBI router and satellites updated to the latest firmware. I had to do this manually. I could not skip steps.  I had to update the latest firmware available after the last update…
8. I have never done this type of updates before…I thank Netgear community for guidance!
9. My current firmware on router is v2.7.1.70. 
10. My speeds are superfast! Today’s speed test at 429mbps, 34.1mbps. Incredible with 15 connected gadgets. 

I am perplexed as to why this old ORBI RBR50 is working so well!! I did get an upgrade to 1 gig speed and also a 3.1 modem.  What ever it is, I got my $600+ back from best buy on my eero return.
