Orbi RCN Speed Issues OR not?

Hello!

(Specifcally reaching out to st_shaw and FURRYe38 since you offered advice in the below refernced posts...)

I am having the SAME exact issue as the originator in this original post:

https://community.netgear.com/t5/Orbi/Orbi-throttling-each-ethernet-port-speed/m-p/1710048

However, my problem is happening on all of my ethernet ports (not only 3 & 4).

Also, RCN's Speedtest site is the only site that is showing me the poor results. All other sites I test the speed on (Speedtest.net, Fast.com, Google) it is a blazing fast 330Mps.

It is a *similar* issue as this post:

https://community.netgear.com/t5/Orbi/Orbi-Throttling-Wired-Ethernet-connections/m-p/1528883#M25804

However, a factory reset did not solve the issue.

To be clear, my speed doesn't seem compromised. All devices seem to be working very well. But, the RCN site is not showing the correct speed when tested. My concern is that RCN is always going to point to my using my own modem as an issue (if I have one inthe future) because of their terrible speed testing site result.

All testing is on a Mac with an ethernet connection to the Orbi CBR40 using the Cat5E that came with the Orbi.

I'm really trying to figure out if I *have* an issue or not, since all other speed test sties all show the blazing fast speed even when the RCN site does not.

Thanks so much!

  • IF your speeds are to spec over wired speed tests, then your system would be working as exspected. Some ISPs are known for throttling there services during some busy time frames. I have a friend in the LA area and his ISP throttles his area where he lives in.

Also be aware that during the world event of CD19, there is more and more users working at home now days so bandwidth in your area maybe getting bogged down some when people are working from home during the day.

    All you can do is:

Have the ISP check the signal and line quality UP to the modem.
Be sure there are not coax cable line splitters in the between the modem and ISP service box.
Be sure your using good quality RG6 coax cable up to the modem.

I recommend using CAT6 lan cables.
