Orbi satellite routing issue

I have been having numerous issues over the last couple months. I am guessing this is due to recent firmware updates. I have tried going back to older firmware, but my system automatically upgrades to the latest even though I have followed the directions on changing the nvram settings to a tee.

i was able to at least do a little debugging today. iPhone and iPad connected to WiFi. However, can’t access internet. MacBook wirelessly connected to Orbi router has no issue accessing internet. iPad and iPhone can access the the Orbi router console using an IP address, so the satellites can get to the router. If I move my iPhone or iPad close to the router so it switches to being connected to the router, then the device will be able to access the internet.

Seems that something is causing devices connected to satellite to not properly route. Manually rebooting the router resolves the issue.

Any thoughts?

I'm sorry to tell you, you're not missing anything. You haven't failed to configure something and you don't have some terrible interference issue. The problem is the Orbi backhaul (WDS) and it's terrible. There is nothing you can do to solve the issue, however, I can tell you how to verify the issue.

The next time your MacBook Pro has connectivity issues on a satellite, use ifconfig to change the MAC address. After you get a new DHCP address (or assign yourself another one manually), your macbook will start working again. Why? Because the issue are layer 2 backhaul issues.
