OrbiOS 2.1.4 availability
A quick update. We're about to release an updated version of OrbiOS 2.1.4 in the next few days through our auto-update mechanism for all Orbi models. When it goes live, you should see a prompt in t...

Apr 24, 2018How about you give us the option to turn OFF AUTOUPDATE. Or STOP automatic updates all together! When you guys roll out the updates FORCED Orbi resets and looses all my settings and takes down my internet and home security system as I’m not home. That’s a fantastic feature! SO sick of this POS not working reliability.

That's not normal EvolutionOX, Orbi should not forget configuration settings just because it was updated. Perhaps you have a defective unit? I agree Control over the upgrade process should be given to users. Netgear can sell their products to auto update by default, but always giving the users a choice if they wish not to do so.
I fully understand their reasons for doing this (possible security issues in the future that clueless users will be affected by because they have no idea their router needs updating) but still give us a choice, it's just fair for those that are tech savy.

This is the exact reason I am going to return the RBK53 kit I bought from costco. Insane not to give the user the option to choose whether to do firmware update!
Orbi team, please add this option now!!!!
- OrbiManApr 25, 2018LuminarySearch old thread bit there are way to telnet into router and change variables so that updates won't happen. Not user friendly but it is there.

My RBR50 and RBS50 both auto updated last night and are working fine with wireless backhaul. My RBR40 is still on the previous firmware and is also operating smoothly on its Ethernet backhaul. So no problems. I however like others am uncomfortable about auto updates. My network servers run backup and maintenance routines overnight and I would prefer to pick one night a week when I could update firmware etc and not do the backup to avoid any possibility of corruption. It’s what I do with my Synology servers and that works fine.
Of course, having said that, I am probably being over cautious as I have never had any problems that I could attribute to this.
