R6700 Firmware Version Update File downloads corrupt?
Setting up a NETGEAR AC1750 Smart WiFi Router (R6700) and was a little surprised to find that firmware update (V1.0.2.16_10.0.57) downloaded from Netgear Support as "recovered file fragments". Also downloaded updates for ReadyShare Vault and ReadyShare Printer, not surprisingly they appeared to download as expected - as common file types. Does anyone have any SOLID info as to why this occurred when downloaded directly from the manufacturer's website? I don't know which type of OS Netgear caters to most often, but last I heard Windows was still the leader as most common Operating Systems installed on PC's worldwide. At this point in time NETGEAR doesn't get a 'pass' simply because the firmware was downloaded from their website. Please. I think they owe it to their customers to get it together, that is if they want those customers to ever purchase again in the future.

I just downloaded and extracted it without issues on a windows pc.
Did you extract the zip file?
And then are you uploading it to the router or trying to open it?
Its not a file you open but that you upload.
How do I manually update the firmware on my NETGEAR router? | Answer | NETGEAR Support
Please post about this here for your model router:

extension, like, say, ".chk") and what that file actually is may be
entirely unrelated.https://community.netgear.com/t5/x/x/m-p/1721037#M124018
