RBK 50 constantly losing Internet

Hi there

Let me start by saying I'm not at all technical so looking for some help with clear instructions as most of the posts I've read I find really confusing.

I have a Virgin Media Hub 3 and although I have excellent speeds, the router is awful at transmitting WiFi so we barely get signal anywhere in the house.

I bought the Orbi router and satellite after a recommendation from a friend. It instantly improved the speeds we could get all over the house and I was so excited! But then....our devices kept showing we'd lost Internet.

I've worked out of I turn the router off and back on it springs back into action but it's doing this multiple times a day so it's not sustainable especially with working from home. Sometimes it says connected to orbi with no Internet and sometimes Orbi just disappears from the list of available networks altogether

I put the Virgin Hub in modem mode and connected it to the Orbi router WAN with a standard ethernet cable.

I have no idea what to do or try to resolve this issue but I know it I can it will work so well in my house so please help me.

Is it a settings issue? Should I have left my hub as the router and just used Orbi for WiFi? Is there something else obvious I'm missing?

Thank you

  • What Firmware version is currently loaded?
What is the Mfr and model# of the Internet Service Providers modem/ONT the NG router is connected too?

Try the modem in router mode and the RBR in AP Mode.

What is the size of your home? Sq Ft?
What is the distance between the router and satellite(s)? 30 feet or more is recommended in between RBR and RBS to begin with depending upon building materials when wirelessly connected.

      Hi Furrye38

Thanks for getting back to me.

      Firmware version: V2.5.2.4

      Virgin Media Hub 3.0 VMDG505/TG2492LG-VM

      About 2,000 sq feet

Satellite is currently about 15 feet away from the router.

My channel for 2.4ghz was on auto so looking at another post i tried 6 and 48 for the 5ghz last night.  so far this morning it has been more stable but my cams went offline once or twice during the night.

The post you shared says different channels and an older FW variant (the FW variant seems to come up a lot as many seem to have issues with one of the updates?

Would you suggest i try anything else before switching to ap mode?

      Thank you for your help
