RBK50 shows lower test speeds after latest firmware installed

I have the original RBR50 router with 2 RBS50 satellites. Almost 10 year old.  Because this model is basically EOL, there have not been a lot of firmware updates, but a couple of months ago, I noticed a new version 2.7.5.6 was available.  After deploying it on the router and both sats, everything seemed fine.  I did not think to test the speeds as I havent had issues recently with firmware updates.

Recently, after building a new machine, decided to run a test from speedtest.net and was getting anywhere from 40 to 80 mbps up and down on my 300MBPS fiber line. Spent a lot of time with ISP support before realizing when plugged directly with a cat6 cable into the ONT, the speed was fine.

Decided to downgrade the firmware to the previous version 2.7.5.4 - and the speeds went back to their expected numbers. Baffling.

I Just had a 50 series online for about 3 days. Speeds seen with the ISP, 1Gb and 50 Mpbs were to spec connected to a CAX80 cable modem in modem mode. FW was loaded and a full on factory reset and setup from scratch was performed after Fw was updated.

Another FW to try is Voxels FW since the Orbi AC series is EoL.

    Good Luck.

Do you always do a full re-set and re-config after FW updates? i dont think I have ever done that.

What would be the main benefit of trying the Voxels FW - is it known to perform better with the default settings?  I am not looking to customize my setup heavily.

      thanks

When I do run into issues yes. Normally if a power cycle of the system OFF then back on after a FW update is good enough. However running into issues, a FR would be needed to check this. If you haven't then would be something that should have been tried.

Something to keep backup config files on hand as well as to make FR and setups quicker.

Up to you to use Voxels FW or not. They seem to keep some of the FW more up to date then stock since NG won't be adding any new stuff.
