Rbk50 speed issues
Hi there On last black friday, bought RBK50 in this great deal. It has arrived, but LAN speedtest (and I believe it affect wireless for both Router and Satellite) are not Ok. I use to get arro...

Sadly no change..
I think about switching Router to AP mode.
In case I decide to change it later, back to Router, could it be done from inside GUI?
Does GUI available in case of AP mode?
I dont want to be in the need of factory default it to get it back to Router mode.
The reason I think to do it because I belive this Double-NAT sitaution leading to a slow speeds performanance..
Thank you and hopefully some change will happen that will cause this to be great again in Router mode and get full speeds.

Just noticed the new FW update, hopefully this pain in the ass issue is over after it.
- Damit1Feb 28, 2019Apprentice
I have decided to divide the tests into 2:
First part, now, update FW. Done OK without issues.
Tommorow (now for me it is 1AM) I got a day off so I have some time to toy arround with that. I will test it LAN WAN (as it is right now) , and WAN LAN (as it used to be).
If that would not make the change, will factory default.
I saw the new erase button (maybe it was there before and I am not aware), in Backup section.
May I do this revert to factory through there and upload my backup?
Or should do this with the pin in the RESET hole as before?

Erase does the same as the button in back. :smileywink: I use the UI all the time when I do a reset. Just did one on my R7800. :smileyvery-happy:

Done some tests.
Sadly, after factory default both units, still cannot get 900Mb ~.
Well, I have tried.
Netgear BTW so far did not reach me back for replace the defective units.
Well, that is weird. made it to AP mode, not Router mode, and it get 600-700M.

Got to my attention that in latest FW upload speed is dropped via WIFI, by 50%.
Used to have 110-130Mb , now arround 50-60.
Downstream is dropped by 13% 280/320.
Even tried to re-flash manually latest one. No luck

Sounds like a problem in the HW acelleration for the router in router mode. AP seems to have better results.
What is the connection with your ISP modem/ONT PPPoE or DHCP?
There are others having problems with PPPoE and achieving 900Mb speeds as well. Something NG will have to look into.

DHCP, other friend of mine in Router mode, same model, same ISP and FTTH service, upgraded together . Suddenly, after previous FW worked well for him now he gets slow speeds too.
At least now it is known to be FW issue and not HW issue
DHCP supposed to be lighter than PPPOE, beacuse of encryption and that.
The question is what, and why.
- FURRYe38Mar 01, 2019Guru - Experienced User
I would get ahold of NG support and let them know what you and your friend are seeing. Since two similar units on same ISP and such. Let NG know about this.
- Damit1Mar 01, 2019Apprentice
Should send them DM?
And what about WIFI speed drop?
- FURRYe38Mar 01, 2019Guru - Experienced User
Another thing to have ready, Router IP address/debug.htm
Enable Debug and Wireless logging. You might need to do this for both versions of FW that your seeing differences with. This would be helpful for NG to review. Pass this on to them if you can.

The support case in NG site is useless because even first time of creation was no response.
So far, the only support I got for Orbi is from this community, their support was useless.
Just started to debug, whatever they need.
I still think about selling this kit for a better Mesh.
Had a single hope to get better product with this FW but not happened.

Hopefully one of the forum moderators will contact you.
So your you seem to be the only one having issues with the latest FW version. Others have posted its' working for them, however I don't think they have the same ISP services and speeds.
Something NG should review at least.
Good Luck.

Got 3 friends in my fiber service 1000/100 ftth, 3 are saying that router mode dropped speeds both wifi nd wired.
DHCP connection

And they all have the Orbi using the new FW?
- Damit1Mar 02, 2019Apprentice
Yes, they all have upgraded to new FW, because I mentioned them NG released new FW.

That is a weird issue.
S8+ speedtest in front of the router (20cm away)- 350-400M speed.
S8+ speedtest in front of the Satellite (about the same distance) 450-500M speed, like used to be before of this upgrade to latest and downgrade back to .210 VER.
Can anyone explain this to me?
That is a mistery for me.

When your moving the phone to speed test between the base and satellite, are you turning OFF the wifi on the phone first after you arrive at either location, then back on, then speed test?
You need to ensure the phone is connected to either base or satellite before testing. Turning OFF the WIFI on the phone and back on helps.

Anybody have a solution to this? I just upgraded to Spectrum's gigabit service and I'm not getting the 940mbps they promise. My download speeds didn't change from the previous tier I had but I notice my upload speeds did increase. When I connect my MacBook Pro straight to the modem via ethernet I do get the around 935mbps down.
Here's my setup:
Modem provided by Charter Spectrum
Orbi set to router mode
Two satellites around my home.
Top download speed I get is around 503mbps even if I tether straight to one of the Orbi ethernet ports.
Any input from anyone please? Thanks.
- Stea1thNov 25, 2019AspirantMine worked by turning off router mode and making it an ap and buying a new router (edge router x)
Sadly it was the only thing that worked for me; I tried everything - fern12Nov 25, 2019Aspirant
Would I have to get a separate router for each of the satelliets as well if I have devices tethered to them?
