RBK50 with Verizon FiOS G3100

So I just picked up this mesh system. I left the 3100 as is, connected a included CAT cable from the 3100 LAN to the Orbi WAN. Then I put the Orbi in AP mode, and then disabled all my wifi channels using Verizon app.

I rebooted both devices just in case. I can connect to the Orbi wifi fine, however, there's a significant drop off in speed and range compared to the 3100. Surely I've done something wrong? When switching to AP, I've made sure to auto handle everything from existing router.

I'm literally in the living room of my townhome and the Orbi is sitting in the kitchen, maybe 45ft away and I'm getting 30mbps compared to the 3100 giving me almost 200.

Any ideas?

  • What Firmware version is currently loaded?
Be sure your using a good quality LAN cable between the modem and router. CAT6 is recommended.

    How many RBS are deployed?
What is the size of your home? Sq Ft?
What is the distance between the router and 📡 satellite(s)? 30 feet or more is recommended in between RBR and RBS🛰️ to begin with depending upon building materials when wirelessly connected.

What channels are you using? Auto? Try setting manual channel 1, 6 or 11 on 2.4Ghz and 40 to 48 channel on 5Ghz.
Any Wifi Neighbors near by? If so, how many?

Try disabling the following and see:
Armor, Smart Parental Controls or Circle, Traffic Meter.

    Hello J1odie,

    Welcome to the NETGEAR Community!

    To add to FURRYe38,

You mentioned that you just purchased your RBK50 Mesh System. The firmware currently installed on your system could be out of date causing network compatibility issues.  Please ensure that you are using the current version of firmware for your Orbi RBK50. When installing the most current firmware for your RBK50 which is FW version 2.7.4.24 ensure you upgrade the satellite first. After your RBK50 is updated remove all satellites from the network and check the speed that you are receiving from your RBR50 then add the additional satellites if necessary.

Please navigate to the link below for the download file for your RBR50:
