RBR50 refusing connection (common forum theme) AFTER full reset

Hi, I have had my RBR50 + 3 satellites setup and running many years.

During that time the RBR50 has thrown fits and has refused to connect so I already know how to do a full factory reset (press reset button until light blinks amber) and then reenter all of your details and port forwards etc.

This time however I have done a full factory reset (including powering down all modems/equipment and disconnecting from mains for 30 sec+) including resetting with reset until light blinks flashing amber and rebooted.

The satellites all sync fine (go magenta then blue then off) and internet seems OK but the RBR50 still refuses to connect by app or by a computer directly connected via cable to the RBR50 to access via a browser (cleared caches, tried edge, chrome, firefox, safari ......)

Internet seems to work fine mostly but getting some outages - not sure if it is router or satellites because I have noway to see but switching everything on and off again (seems to be every day so really annoying now) seems to recover which seems to indicate a netgear product lock up.

What can I do to get connection accepted by router to get access to my router login page /iphone app connected so I can maintain/debug system.

I have exhausted everything in community pages now and conclude the netgear firmware is not a stable release (the community pages seem to support this and a cynical person might say that these errors are to do with planned obsolescence!!)

I have a really old belkin router connected on my LAN to provide an emergency WLAN now and this is always accessible on it's logon page from the same computer and direct connection above - it's range is limited but saves me having to waste working days messing around - but point is it ALWAYS connects (it's over 10 years old) so it's not my LAN or similar - I think I can safely point to the netgear software having a connection issue.

Is anyone from Netgear or community able to offer a way to get these routers to reliable connect in the short term?

Will there be software updates to remove this connection problem going forward....like I said other routers NEVER have this issue!

I hope to hear soon.

When a computer is wired directly to the router:

    • Does it get assigned an IP address?
    • Does it get internet and seem to perform typical internet tasks correctly?
    • The only actual problem is that the web browser management does what:
      • Does not respond at all.  Browser simply times out
      • Pops up an authentication page and rejects user inputs?
    • After a Factory Reset, the login credentials are set to "admin" and "password", and the user is prompted to change the password to something a bit more secure.  Did this setup happen?

      Hi CrimpOn,

      Going thru points raised;

      1) Computer is directly connected via ethernet cable

      2) Yes it has an IP address - verified with PING and no packets lost

      3) Internet works for a few hours then main router seem to lock and lose internet connection. Internet feed then verified as fine with old belkin router.

      3) Browser reports connection refused. Not a time out. Have left system to settle after a fresh power on/off reboot and all the router status ring lights go from flashing white to blue to off and a few more minutes after but still the router refuses connection. You can run diagnostics but it can't automatically fix.

If I power on/off the router then the satellites go magenta - then blue then off which gives me hope they are connected correctly when router is on.

4)After a hard paperclip button amber blinking light held for 30 second reset, my settings now seem to remain instead of reset and being presented with a fresh setup. I have done factory resets in the past and know what is supposed to happen (as it is a major pain to have to set up all the port forwarding and fixed IPs needed). I have repeated a paperclip reset several times now with all satellites off and unplugged and it will not revert to factory at this point in time.

      5) The iphone app did pop up with login and credentials page a couple of times and I tried my password and default 'password' but no joy and now the app times out (cant tell if that is time out or refuse)

When it's working it is great and it has been working a few years fine just  in the last few months (new firmware - cant remember when it updated TBH) - but not feeling the Orbi love right this moment!

      Suggestions?

      Cheers

Thanks for your patience. What IP address is assigned to the computer when it is connected to the router?

Normally, Orbi routers choose to assign the IP subnet 192.168.1.x to devices connected to the router LAN (Local Area Network).

Sometimes the Orbi itself has been assigned an IP in that subnet by the device the Orbi is connected to on the WAN side.  In that case, the Orbi has to assign a different private IP subnet to the LAN, which can be any of the following:

        • 10.0.0.0 – 10.255.255.255
        • 172.16.0.0 – 172.31.255.255
        • 192.168.0.0 – 192.168.255.255 except for 192.168.1.x

        https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Private_network

Even though so many other subnets in the 192.168.x.x space are available, Netgear chose to have the Orbi use 10.0.0.x for the LAN subnet when the normal subnet was already being used on the WAN side.

The Orbi router will appear as IP .1 on whatever subnet is used on the LAN side, i.e. either

        • 192.168.1.1 or
        • 10.0.0.1

Can you please try opening a web browser to connect to "1" on whatever subnet your PC is in?  (This will check whether the Orbi DNS process is working correctly.  When users enter http://orbilogin.net , that is not a "Real URL" that can be resolved into an IP address like "ford.com" or "google.com". The Orbi router is supposed to intercept the connection request and substitutes the IP of the router.
