RBR50 regularly needs power cycling

I'm getting sick and tired of this kit.  Every now again, sometimes after weeks sometimes after days, I lose internet connectivity.  This is usually resolved by switching off the satellite, switching off the router, switching back on the router and then switching back on the satellite.

Sometimes though, this leaves a situation where all wireless devices are ok, but wired devices (e.g. my desktop computers) still can't reach the internet.  Then I have to switch off the satelllite, put up with poorer wifi in some parts of the house and no connectivity for wired devices connected to the satellite (but ok for those connected to the router).  It's touch and go then whether when I switch on the satellite things are ok but eventually I get back to a properly functioning network.

Very very inconvenient when this happens whlst I'm away from home and can't contact my home devices (hive hub for heating, ring doorbell, file servers, etc.).  Not what I paid good money for, and several contacts with Netgear support haven't resolved it.

I'm going to try disconnecting everything from the satellite, and use a simple network switch for those devices, but then a waste of functionality supposedly built in to the satellite and very frustrating.

Yes firmware is up to date etc etc.

  • What Firmware version is currently loaded?
What is the Mfr and model# of the Internet Service Providers modem/ONT the NG router is connected too?

What is the size of your home? Sq Ft?
What is the distance between the router and satellite(s)? 30 feet is recommended in between RBR and RBS to begin with depending upon building materials when wirelessly connected. https://kb.netgear.com/000036466/How-far-should-I-place-my-Orbi-satellite-from-my-Orbi-router

What channels are you using? Auto? Try setting manual channel 1, 6 or 11 on 2.4Ghz and any unused channel on 5Ghz.
Any Wifi Neighbors near by? If so, how many?

Try enabling Beamforming and MIMO(MIMO may or may not be needed) and WMM. Under Advanced Tab/Advanced Settings/Wireless Settings

Try disabling the following and see:
Armor, Circle, Daisy Chain, Fast Roaming, IPv6 and Set 20/40Mhz Coexistence to 40Mhz only. Set Short preamble instead of Long preamble modes. Save settings and reboot the router and satellite(s).

Has a factory reset and setup from scratch been performed since last FW update?

Thank you Furrye38 for taking an interest in this, but the problems I am experiencing are to do with access to the internet from my local network, not access to the router and satellite by wifi, which has always been fine.

The problems have persisted across various versions of firmware, but if part of the solution is to do a hardware reset and setup from scratch each time the firmware is updated, then that itself would be a very severe problem.

Please provide feedback to the questions presented so we can get an idea of your situation and configuration. This helps us help you with some suggestions and ideas on areas that should be vetted and narrowed down to see if the problems is with Orbi or not. IF you think the problem is sever then you may need to contact NG support directly if we can't help you here in the forums.
