I have repeatedly tried installing via both the mobile app and downloading the latest firmware directly from Orbi and ran into issues. When I try using the mobile app and ask it to check for upda...

I also have an RBR50 on firmware v2.7.5.6. When I open the Orbi app (Android, version 2.51.0.5242) there is no mention of newer firmware. Opening the web management system, the Firmware Update web page says, "no new firmware". This is frustrating because Netgear released version 2.7.6.6 on Jan 13, 2026 with the vague description "security fixes". This has been a common situation with Orbi firmware updates for the past nine years. (new firmware is released but the app and web interface are not aware of it.)
In this situation, the only method to update the firmware is to:
- Download the zip files for the router and satellite to a computer.
- Extract the two *.img files from the zip files.
- Connect to the Orbi system and use the Manual Firmware Update option for the satellite:
o This option can be found "below the line" on the router Firmware Update page, or
o There is a Firmware Update item on the satellite web interface. - After updating the satellite(s), update the router itself using the Manual Firmware Update option.
Thus, we seem to have two problems:
- Your version of the Orbi app announces that new firmware is available while mine does not.
- At some step in the Manual Update process, you see a message that the file is corrupted.
It would be tremendously helpful if you could make a screen shot of these two situations and paste them into this conversation. Alas, for the past 11 weeks, any time a user attempts to paste an image into a conversation, an error message pops up saying "Try again later." So, we are left asking you to please describe the exact step in the process where the message appears.
(and to confirm that the original downloads have been deleted and you have gone back to the Netgear support web page and downloaded the zip files again. and that you have tried a different web browser.)
