Should we expect a wifi 6 orbi cable modem?

Hello all!!

Just about to acquire Orbi to replace my outdated mesh system... but as it always happens, when I’m about to get something, there are news about a updated version coming up... (WIFI 6 one).

Since I was going to get a cable modem/router orbi,,, should I wait until they push out that WIFI 6 version or should the wifi6 satellites play well with the current generation orbi cable modem / router....

Don’t mind waiting a couple of years for price drops... dont want to be in the same situation when I bought my apple airport extremes just to get the news that they wont be supporting any longer.

Whay do you all think?

Sam

    A. I probably wouldn't get the integrated version (modem and router). I'd buy a modem seperate that way you control the routers firmware and you can update as needed for cheaper.

    B. Not sure how long you want to wait. I haven't used the new orbi but I've used a few other AX (wifi 6 devices) and the firmware is still a bit beta running (buggy). Maybe in 6 months when they've had time to get most of the major issues ironed out, then I'd recommend them.

I have the current version of orbi RBK53 and I've used the Arris mesh ax11000 and I went back to orbi because it was just as fast, firmware was more stable, and it just worked all the time.  There's always going to be something new coming out. Figure out exactly what you're needing and buy something that'll handle a bit more than that for cushion. Again, if you need it now and like stability, I'd steer away from wireless AX. If you're planning on waiting then you might be ok.

I was told the CBK40 was going to be the last of the Orbi Cable modem gateways. It wasn't a big seller as they had hopped for. Kind of hard to compete with the stand alone Orbi system anyways.

I prefer having my modem and router system separate for troubleshooting reasons.

I stand corrected. I just found this over on the FCC site:

I've seen that but I'm not sure if its a subset of the RAX version or of the Orbi's

Probably based off of the Orbi AX system.
