Speedtest in the Orbi web interface

Any idea what servers are used by the Orbi web interface's Advanced -Setup - Speed Test?

I always get way higher numbers using this compared to all other speed tests (including tests at Ookla's web site, Google, fast.com).

Makes for a good feeling, but why is this test result different/better than all other tests?

  • For example:

    Orbi                  479/12 Mbps

    Speedtest.net   301/13.2

    Fast.com          150/13

    Google             227/14.8

These use different (single vs multi threaded downloads etc.) methods, but one would expect Orbi and Speedtest.net to be similar in their methods.

How are you comparing speed tests?

Are you using a wired in computer or wireless?

When you use the orbi app's speedtest, it hosts the test directly off the router.

Versus if you're using the speedtest app or browser based method, its hosted on the computer/phone you're testing with. If that device is wireless, then the wireless tends to be the speed bottleneck.

Using PC connected via ethernet directly to the RBR.

Link speeds is 1 Gbps between RBR and the PC.

BTW, I'm paying my ISP for a 400/15 Mbps service. So, the Orbi results are a bit better but not impossible.
