Upload Packet loss on Orbi AC3000 Wifi system (2 pack)
I have been having some upload packet loss problems only in video games, but not anything else. My upload packet loss will go up from 0% to 20 to 40% for a few seconds, then returns to 0%. This happens randomly somewhere around every 30 seconds. I tried the basics like making sure the cables are all okay and resetting the router and modem, which didn't work. Then I tried changing around the ethernet adapter settings in windows and manually updated the router and satellites to the latest firmware, which didn't work, so then I also tried updating it to an older firmware where I didn't have the problem at all and that also didn't work. Others in the house who are on wifi are normal and my upload/download speeds are fine, but the other person in my house who are connected via ethernet also experience the same type of packet loss at the same time when we are both playing the same video game, or different video game.
I have the Orbi RBR50 for a router, Netgear CM500 for a router, and I have the RBS50 and the Orbi Voice RBS40V for satellites. The other person in my house with a wired connection who is also experienced packet loss is connected to the RBS50.
I pinged my default gateway and always had 0% packet loss no matter the case, but when I pinged google's servers and when I pinged google's servers while playing video games, my upload packet loss ranges from 4 to 8% percent. This is strange since I have never had packet loss since the night it started, and it is always upload packet loss, never download.
I am not sure of a solution, hence why I am writing this post, but I have some speculations. Since I pinged google's servers and I lost packets, I know it isn't google's servers so it might be my ISP. Since I thought it was my ISP, I was going to set up OpenVPN to try and get rid of this problem. However, my modem that is connected to my router is on the older side, which again is the NETGEAR Cable Modem cm500. It often gets really hot and I am not sure if this is causing my problem. I have the Is there anything else I should try/buy to fix the problem? I am hesitant to buy a VPN when my ISP may not be causing my problem. I can provide any other information if needed.
Update:
Fortunately, my problem was solved. It was actually solved around mid december but I just now realized that I hadn't updated my post. After trying nearly everything, I basically gave up on trying to fix it and realized it must be my ISP and decided to wait it out. Sometime around mid-december, there were Xfinity trucks down my street for a few hours working on something. After they left, my packet-loss was gone. I hadn't called them so either one of my neighbors called or they figured out that there was a problem. Its been a few months and I haven't had packet loss since.
