Aircard 340U problems updating firmware on mac

I have a mac laptop running Sierra OS and an Aircard 340U. I've been using it with a Pepwave Surf Soho modem now I want to update the firmware as it has been randomly disconnecting on me. I plug the 340U into my laptop's USB port and nothing happens. I have downloaded AirCard Watcher, but when I open it, it just says 'No device detected'. I also tried running the firmware updator and it just says 'Waiting for device' forever. My Aircard when plugged in gives me the 'Read to connect' message. Please help!

    Hi blommer,

Thank you for posting in the community. Have you tried using the AC340U unit in another laptop or PC?

    Please let me know. :]
