Battery Required? in remote location with AC power - NETGEAR Fuse Mobile Hotspot AC779S

I am using my NETGEAR Fuse to turn on an engine heater at a remote site via a smart switch on the average of twice a month during the winter months. I am concerned about starting a fire, not by the small 35W heater, but by leaving the hotspot continually plugged in and the Lithium battery being continually charged.

Will my Fuse operate "just fine" over a long period of time without a battery just on AC power alone?

  • Hi CRS50,

I know the new Nighthawk MR1100 will if you upgrade the charger to a QC2 or QC3 charger and use USBC.  Sorry I don't know for the Fuse.  I know my old hotspot from ZTE (and many others) will not operate without a battery.

Try and see.  If it turns on, stays on, and continues to work underload (ex Fast.net, Okla, etc.) it should be fine.  My ZTE would not even turn on if no battery was installled.

  • And if your hotspot runs successfully without its battery but you're worried about mains power outages, you could plug the hotspot into a UPS. Depending on the size of the UPS, the hotspot would probably keep running for many hours because of its relatively low power requirement.
