LB2120 can't send SMS and disconnects
I just installed an LB2120 and activated a new SIM on Verizon for it. The data connection seems to work well, but I cannot send or receive SMS (text) messages. When I try to send a text messa...

Hello Rudedog614
Have you checked with verizon to see if that Sim card has a limitation on texts and is just a data card?

Hi Darren,
I have checked and that may have been the issue. The Verizon tech reset or reenabled the SMS feature, but I have not gotten back to the LB2120 yet to test it. I will do that soon.
BUT, if that is the issue, the router does not handle that condition gracefully. Imo, it should provide a more useful error message and not go into the long disconnect cycle. Maybe this can be looked at for a future firmware rev.
Also, are you able to explain to me what enabling diagnostics actually does and if there is any way mere mortals can see the diagnostic details?
Thanks for the reply!

I am back to my LB2120, and whatever Verizon did does not seem to have changed anything.
How can I get more details about how the messaging is failing?
Thanks

I had a similar rough time with the web gui setting up SMS Alerts.
1. It would not accept (any) format for the telephone number, so I saved the Configuration and exported it to a file, edited that file adding the number and imported it back into the modem. That seemed to (knock) something loose and the router rebooted and then it "magically" had the telephone number I entered in the configuration number entered into the web field.
2. Then I found if APN wasn't customized and "Added" and "Saved" it would only connect at 3G and repeatedly be disconnected from the LTE provider network. I finally added and saved the correct one, but then every 5 minutes or so the whole LB2120 router would reboot or ask me to "pick" an APN from a list, then magically disappear and reboot again. As long as the "correct" APN is saved and held, it would connect at 4G and could send SMS Alerts.. but the web gui almost never saves the number or checked values correctly.. again I had to save the config to a text file and edit that and re-import it to get it to work.
I could "almost" guess the provider is broadcasting an APN and the router is throwing away its APN config and trying to "latch on" to whatever the provider serves as its default.. but why totally toss its saved configuration? That's nutty.
3. After the about two steps, then my Android 7.0 phone "Messenger" app was amazingly "silent" when the router sent "Test SMS messages" which it said succeeded. I tried clearing the phone cash and clearing the messenger storage.. no change. Finally I rebooted my phone and restarted the Messenger app on the phone.. and a waterfall of previously sent messages came through.. so the problem could be with your device.
